Start with freezing your credit with all 3 reporting companies. $10 each and it's done.

Monitor your bank and CC daily. Not sure fire but a pretty good start.

Scam, they do nothing you can't do yourself for free, a quick google will show how.
(Just off the top of my head, you can lock your credit file with the credit beaureus at no charge.)

They're based not far from me and I've talked to several employees that have all confirmed this as well.
It is not a nice organization and has very predatory billing practices. The guy that founded the place
published his SSN to "prove" how secure the services were, and they don't talk about the 13+ times
his identity has been stolen...

It isn't a scam, as they do provide what they promise in the commercials.  You can do the same thing yourself for free.

All they do is place a 3 month fraud alert on your name/social at the 3 major credit bureaus. 10 min of your time every three months and you can do it yourself for free.

eta: the only thing they do offer above that is if your credit/identity is stolen they will cover the costs and help with resorting your credit identity. I'm not sure what is all involved in or how much they actually help.

They also had to dish out 12 mil for a deceptive business practice law suite a while back.

When they started out, what they actually did was to place a new credit freeze with the credit reporting agencies, something you could do yourself for free at that time.  One of their competitors sued them and a judge ruled they couldn't do that anymore, although you can still do it yourself.  Since the courts knocked out the primary thing they did in their service, I'm not quite sure just what they are selling these days, I guess they just tell you how to lock your own credit, but you can find that info on the net for free.

If you have a problem they will send out some form letters for you, but again, you can do that yourself.

Scam. It's like aflac. They love when you pay them, but don't pay out in any way shape or form. *allegedly*

I have it and find it useful.  I get my credit score every day without having to jump through any hoops.  I also get an alert whenever a credit check is done on me, and occasionally it is done without my consent.  I also use it to reduce spam mail to my address.

Put a fraud alert on your credit report (free). It's the same damn thing. I am a private sector fraud investigator and laugh when I see people who pay for services like lifelock.

You will get random ALERT  wanting you to call in to find out what triggered it, when you call they won't be able to find anything, but they WILL try and sell you an UPGRADED package.
