Edit: nowhere in the text did it mention a bios switch on the card. Have that a poke and I'm up and running.

So my limited upgrades arrived today. Just finished installing a 600w power supply and the computer boots fine. The card requires a 500w PSU so I overshot in case I do any overclocking.

Turn secure boot off, install a R9 280 3G card, and no boot but gpu has power. No video on built in gpu either.

Remove card and PC boots right up.

What am I missing?

Does the card alone require 500w or does the entire system need 500w?

Mine wouldnt boot with my big card. Put small one in and it would. Bigger PS fixed it.

SOLVED!

Little bastard has a bios mode switch hidden on the GPU. Pushed it in and we're rolling.

Drivers are going now.  Eventually I'll build a new tower, but I've got 8gb ram, and a 3.4ghz haswell dual running hyperthreading that should kick some serious ass.  Considering the CPU was stock, a few tweaks to this Acer tower (wife bought it for me last Christmas) it should kick some ass on gaming.  Need to build a whole new tower for Star Citizen though.
