| Did anybody at all like this movie? Has anyone read the book? |
| I liked the movie. It came out shortly after SPR, and I think that the timing hurt it. It's not a go watch it and enjoy the action kind of movie. It's a make you think type of movie. Beautifull scenery though. It's been about 41/2 or 5 years since I saw it though, I may change my opinion if I watched it again. |

I thought it was terribly over-acted and instead of using any sort of plot to convey the insanity of war they just decided to make all of the characters appear insane. The dream sequences did nothing but drag the movie out and make it boring. There were no characters you related to or even empathized with. The screenwriter and director were trying to prove some point, I just havent figured out what it is. Not on my favorite list. |
| I agree that it was too long, and it didn't make a whole lot of "sense" at first. It's not an action movie, it's a make you think kind of movie (I don't generally care for those). Yes war is a mother F***er, and they kinda got it across. I think they used too much symbolism/alliteration (in the cinematic sense) and the dream scenes were bizare. The jungle/field scenes were cool from a scenerey/film perspective (I stopped following the characters early on and payed more attention to the rest of what was going on). The leaf in the stream thing kinda sticks out in my head for some reason. |
| I thought this was a great movie. I am in a very small minority on this site. As Pony Driver stated, it should not be viewed as an action movie. It is not by any means the Pacific War companion to Saving Private Ryan, and it is quite unfortunate that it was billed that way at that time it came out. I saw SPR after Thin Red Line and was somewhat disappointed in SPR because it seemed mainly like an action and special effects movie. Its attempts to convey the horror of war pale in comparison to TRL. But ultimately I don't think the two movies can be compared very well because they were trying to do different things. If you loved SPR, you probably won't care as much for TRL, and vice versa. |

I loved TRL. I thought it was a beautiful movie. Then again, I am a sucker for art films too. It was not meant to be a realistic war film like SPR or Band of Brothers. I do however think that Windtalkers was the worst P.O.S. war film ever foisted on the American public. Oh my god was it horrible! Cheers, Chris |
