More so than stupid people.
Liar: Hey, make sure you fill out that shit exactly this way. Me: Why? Liar: Just put the lines and zeros next to... Me: Why? Do you need this shit when I'm done with it? Liar: No, but just put the lines and zeros... Me: I'm making my own list, thanks. Liar: But right there, just put... I ignored him after that point. The next week... Liar: Hey do you have that shit that I asked for? Me: What shit? Liar: Those sheets that I told you to write lines and zeros on... Me: Nope. I have my own list. Liar: I need those sheets. Me: Last week, you said you didn't need them. Liar: Yes I did. Me: No, you didn't, I asked you specifically if you needed that shit, and you said that you didn't. Liar: (both of us yelling while he claims that he said that I didn't ask him if he needed that shit, and him denying that he said he didn't need that shit) Motherfucker, all you had to say was that you changed your mind, or that the requirements changed, or that you fucked it up. Anything but lie. At least now I know that he's a knobslobbering lying cockbag that can't communicate. Fuck. |

The worst kind are the ones that jump over some serious mental hurdles and actually believe that the untrue shit they are telling you really happened. Had a boss once. People that were 2 ranks lower or less than his rank? Treated them like pieces of shit. On top of that: He would say things, and then later claim that he didn't say them. He would claim to have said things things that he never said. As soon as I realized that that was going on, I started bring witnesses and writing down everything he would say (just for the effect, I recorded it too). |

Your job sounds REALLY fucking easy. You hiring? I simplified the important points, but... Go down to your recruiter's office. Qualify for my field. Spend 6-12 months waiting for a billet to open in my field. Go to boot camp. Go to a technical school. Go work/study/deploy for 5 years. Go to another technical school. Go lead some troops that are fucking off/skating/etc. Go to another unit. Lead some more troops. Make rank 5 times in all that period. If you can manage all of that, have at it. |

I had a boss like that. I wound up knocking his ass off a platform down into an 8' deep trench. (as a young man, I had a much shorter fuse) Had to go tell the owner what happened. He laughed about it and chewed the guy's ass for being a POS liar. The guy in this story isn't even my boss. We're the same rank. We both work for the same boss. A co-worker privy to all of this told me afterwards that this dude is known for doing that shit, and that the only way out of the situation was to punch the dude in the face or walk away. |

I'll bet at least his lies were predictable. Quoted:

I had a boss that was a chronological liar. He lied all the time. He would lie to your face about shit that he knew that you knew he was lying about just to see what your response would be. ![]() And liars, by definition, are unpredictable. Even if you know that they are lying all the time (and most liars tell the truth sometimes), how do you know that they are lying the same way each time? If it was as simple as taking every statement and flipping it around, it'd be easy. However, there are a lot of things that just don't have a 'black' and a 'white'... it could be a gazillion gray things. |

No, he wasn't a compulsive liar. He didn't do it stupidly like a kid to cover his fuckups or to make himself seem more important. It was entirely within his control. He did it as one of his ways of manipulating people. It was one of the tools in his sociopath toolbox. It was just one of the ways he got business done. As a useful tool, he kept it sharp by always probing people with lies. I'm sure he subconsciously kept a running account of people's reactions to truth and lies in various scenarios . He knew your gullibility threshold. The problem with a liar like that is that they are better at the game than you. I hate liars, too. |

Do I know they're lying? > No, then selfishness is readily apparent and easily accounted for. v Yes, then I must disregard everything they say and assume everything has a selfish motive. Which didn't work today because 1. I learned he's a liar, and 2. Lying didn't benefit him.
