| Buy the grip you posted as an example. Use it to make a mold out of concrete. Plant a tree of the kind of wood you want your grip made from, attaching the mold around it. As the tree grows it'll fill in the mold, like the Japanese do with those square watermelons. When it fills up completely, remove the mold and cut the perfectly formed grip off of the tree. Easy peasy. |

scroll saw, drum and disk sander, and a 3/8" roundover router bit would make pretty quick work of that. That's what I use well besides the bit when I make wooden spoons, I use cherry wood and wittle on them when I'm using the smoker. The first few I just used my knife and a chisel. I should look into making custom wood AK grips, so thanks OP for the idea

Quoted: So I'm planning on buying my first trashcan gun, most likely a Yugo underfolder. I wood like a wood pistol grip but I'm not really a fan of the ones I've seen. I do however think the USPalm grip looks great from an ergonomic/aesthetic angle. So hears my question. What tools would I need to make a wood version of the pictured pistol grip? Would a dremel, file, and hand drill suffice? ![]() http://www.hawaiireporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/uspalm_ak_battle_grip_black_a_1.jpg Shaping wood is nowhere as simple as it may seem. If you really want to dive in, rough cut your blank to a general size, then go at it with it with a spokeshave. |
