I like boy dogs because they seem to be more playful and funny

I grew up always having girl dogs and they were always mellow and cuddly.  I have a girl dog now (3 y/o pit) and shes pure energy but very loving.  Never wants to leave my side (unless its time to go outside and play). I have 2 male does as well (9y/o lab/pit and 2 y/o pit mix).  the 9 y/o is m gf's dog and he just wants to be a bum.  the 2 y/o is full of energy as well but we joke cause he cuddles "when HE feels like it, not when you want to"

Always had male dogs until the last year or so.  It is so nice to be able to sleep without waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of the dog licking his balls.

Girl dogs I think will be more in tune in the field, meaning they will hunt harder for their master.

But, just like women they can be bitchy and very temperamental, even going so far as to dislike family memembers

Male dogs are generally bigger/stronger, and I think just as good in the field when you get them cut. More clownish at home though.

I prefer males though, mostly to keep the testosterone levels in the house in favor of my team, and because they are usually cheaper to buy and cheaper to have cut.

I like both.

My male dog was a sweet, snuggly goofball. My bitches have all been less snuggly, more serious, and absolutely more maternal and protective of my son. YMMV.

Right now we have two bitches and are planning on getting a male dog this spring.

My dad had a female coonhound when I was a kid, and if I went hunting with him she wouldn't tree, she wouldn't even leave his side.

She was a bitch.

I would get dropped off at home and dad would hit the same fields, she would tree every coon in the field.

No preference here. Best friend has a 25 pound girl Bichon (they average at around 11-13) and she is the biggest sweetie ever. I just like dogs period. If I didn't have allergies i'd have another right now.

Always preferred females for hunting dogs.  They seem less playful, more business.  I now have a male GSD in the house and he is fucking clown shoes.

Yeah my male is a goofball. Loves to play.

My female is more serious, but really affectionate.

Both are GSDs. Together they make a good team.

In the past we usually had male beagles. In fact I don't remember a single female of any kind. They where hunting dogs so they remained chained up outside. Try that with a female in the country and you'll have mutts in no time. They were always affectionate, loyal, well behaved dogs. That is unless you rang a bell. For some reason they went psycho when they heard that.

Fast forward 20+ years and I have a female lab. She is funny, playful, protective, loving, great with the kids and a jealous bitch. She gets a little jealous when I give my kids a hug. She loves the kids though. She knows that she can nip at the boy (oldest) and play tug of war with him. At the same time she is extremely gentle with my daughter (youngest) and will stand there looking at me as if pleading for help when my daughter has her by the ear.

I'm not sure if it's the difference in bread, sex or something else.

The breeder from whom my folks got their lab (female) maintained that males had bigger personalities.  I had a male lab I adopted and he reinforced that belief.  Current dog is a female hound mix and I've never met a dog with more personality and one that made me laugh so much.

4 males and 6 females, and a male cat to level the playing field.

Doesn't make much difference really, female dogs are not like female people.

That's what I used to think, all my previous dogs were male.

My ex talked me into considering a female, and that's what we ended up with.  This dog is the goofiest, most entertaining dog I have ever seen. I have never seen an animal with more personality than her.  I take her to the dog park every other day and I am constantly getting comments about her personality and behavior.

My previous female GSD was a brilliant dog but would never just run around like mine does now.

He also definitely is more a one man dog than a family dog. Yes he loves them but he goes where I go and sits next to me or on me when I'm chilling

IME females are more protective and since I have kids that's what I have.  I feel for anyone that messes with my kids.  The bad part of that is I have to really watch her when people come over.  If the cops ever show up here she's a goner.

I have both, and it's a nice balance.

I grew up having only female dogs, but I like the mixture.

Sometimes, my male dog tries my patience, but that's more his breed (Malamute) than anything.

Girl dogs. I'm on my first after a string of males and she has been the easiest to train and is a better protector of the kids. She is a mental case when I get home from work, most blue heelers are though. wound up tight as a fiddle string.

Males are a little more independent which can equal stubborn

Girls seem more focused on being pleasing the owner. Great great granddad use to breed pits with papers way back when, my great grandma taught me that females will fight to the death where males will fight till they're hurt.
Yes, my family helped to populate the breed that GD loves so dearly

Multiple males in a house can cause serious dominance issues which means peeing on EVERYTHING TWICE.  Females don't seem to do this with me.
