What is a group buy. Please explain.

A group purchase is exactly that. Buying X amount of a product at the same time in order to receive a better price than if you went out and bought it by yourself.

SteyrAug just had a .50cal group buy and as posted in another thread, he'll be doing a CavArms group purchase in the very near future.

It's where someone negotiates a special price for whatever it may be. Most of the time if you buy a certain quantity like for example 10 AR15's, the mfr. will give you a dealer price break. By getting a bunch of folks to commit to buy the item, everyone in the group gets to take advantage of the special price.

Specifically on the Cav15s we sold them with several upgrades for $620.00 + S/H. For comparisson the Cav Arms price for the standard rifle with NO upgrades is $650.00.

So basically group buys let you buy more for less.

Am I the only person that clicked on this topic thinking that they were going to be tempted into buying something?

The people that arrange and deal with the logistics of said "group purchases" often end up being highly respected for the selfless act.  Sometimes running a group buy can be easy and faily painless...but most of the time it can be a PITA.  Hats off to all those willing to go the extra mile to save some bucks for the rest of us.
