An 1903 Springfield used to go for less than $100.00. Now a unfucked one can go well north of $1,500.00 now that the supply has dried up. One day the same thing will happen to Mosin's and Mauser's. on the Mosin part.
It will happen. Just a few years ago a Mosin could be had for $89.00 now they are around $150.00 and that's with plenty around to sell. Remember when SKS could be had dirt cheap? Now a good one is around $500.00. At one time a nice AK would be less than $250.00 now look at the prices, $500 to $600 for Century crap... These chop projects just speed the process along. Why not chop up a Rem 700 or something else that they are still making and has no history? Just MHO. But it's OP's to do what he wishes. |
Bingo Mikhail, the Mosin is just about the cudest, most basic bolt gun EVER. I doubt it'll ever be valuable... Yeah, the price will jump but by then the surplus will be long gone and I won't want the damn thing then x54R is cheaper than 5.56 for Christ's sake... I wouldn't even consider using it if there wasn't cheap, powerful ammo.
Oh, and I have two originals already that won't be fucked with, one in near perfect condition |

The grip will just be a modified Magpul AK grip. In short, the folder would be attached via the rear screw (the pillar and adapter would be one piece) and the stock would be properly inletted to fit. So what do yall think? Recommendations? Criticisms? Opinions? Someone built these out of bolt action shotuns. |

Thats it, thats what I'm going for! Have seen the pic of them folded for few years now and just thing they are COOL. Edit: Just found this long ass thread totally dedicated to those little things. Gotta love the ruskies http://guns.allzip.org/topic/60/5.html Those little things went for 950 rubles.... correct me if I'm wrong but that's like $25.... holy shit |

It's a Mosin. Throw caution to the wind and go for it. Who cares about what a bunch of people you don't know think about what you want to do to your $150 easily replaceable rifle? Do what you want to do, it's your Mosin, not ours. Exactly man. I was mainly hoping for some input on the design is the thing. |

I think it's a stupid waste of money and time but it's your rifle. Who cares, go for it. Edit* The handi rifle looks pretty good tho. I think that its a great project. One of the easiest and cheapest guns available with a virtually endless supply of ammo and will kill anything in the US. I really like the cerakote. Buy a 3D printer and print a stock. |

As far as the design, do you think the AK underfolder mechanism could be made to work? The parts should be readily available. Definitely. The handi exists doesn't it if it works with that thing it aughta be pretty straight forward with the mosin. My only thing is that if using the rear stock bolt will be a strong enough mounting point... I'd like to think so if I correctly fitted the stock but I've still got a few years before I get that engineering degree... lol
And the parts are definitely easy. $15 underfolder, and get another trunion copy cut, and mock up some way to attach the trunion to the bolt. LIke I said, appears straightforward enough... |
