So... normally, the denizens of GD decry seasonal influenza vaccinations because they don't want to get autism, or because the vaccine actually no shit gives you influenza 100% of the time, every time.
This year, things are a bit different. With people running around in level A PPE isolating anyone that sneezes, there's a risk of the flu being confused with the bola. How's that flu shot looking now? In other news I was vaccinated against influenza a little over a week ago. I'm pretty sure I'm an asymptomatic carrier of influenza as I never showed any symptoms in the time frame the medical experts of GD have laid out. |
| My wife has asthma so she'll get one, the kids will get it too. I may or may not depending on if I can find a convenient time and location to get it. I hate to go the doctors office when I'm not sick because about 40% of the time I catch something while I'm there. |
| 58, Never have had a flu shot. Last time I got the flu was almost 25 years ago. I get a mild cold every year it so. Mostly because someone comes aboard with it and gives it to everyone else. Usually if they have the flu they're too sick to come to work and give it to the rest of us. |

I avoided contact as much as possible and kept my distance when speaking to him. He refused to get the hint and would come closer, I didn't have the balls to tell him "dude I don't want your disease, gimmie another foot or two please" Finally he cornered me last friday to go to lunch, again, no balls to say "no" so we went. This AM he was telling me how he became febrile friday evening he seems better today so it obviously wasn't influenza but the point is that there are assholes in this world that will come to work with any infection imaginable |

ETA, I have been vaccinated for most everything else. I should probably check on the tetanus though, it as been a while. |

I always get the shot. And I apologize for the following rant...
Flu vaccination is a PUBLIC health issue. Not your own miserable self. Don't care if you get the flu, like to give your immune system exercise or whatever? Fine. Most of us here are youngish to middle age-ish and the flu is not an issue for us. But it still kills 10-25K people in the US every year. YOU could pass on the flu to someone who could die from it. An elderly person or a young person or just an unlucky person. You don't get the flu from the shot or AID's or anything else. You get immunity to the best guessed strains from that year. That's it. |

People freak out over Ebola and don't stop to think that they are far more likely to die from something like the flu. Not likely, but far more likely than whatever they fear or are prepping for. Hell, in 1918, the flu killed nearly 5% of the world's population.
Me? I get the shot ever year. It's free for me and sometimes even works. I get the flu and usually don't when I get the shot...so it's a no brainer for me. Of course, I don't wear a tinfoil hat and think vaccines are the devil. Quite the opposite. They rock and have helped control and even eradicate diseases, like smallpox. I suppose vaccines also don't phase me because I have had a metric shit ton of them, starting in basic. When I was in the 101st, we got jacked each month so we would be ready to go anywhere in the world in 18 hours. Doc always found something to hit us with each month...including vaccines for smallpox and plague, which took a shot each month for months...after which your arm would bubble for days. I lived...and the Soviet Union fell. I attribute much of that to their fear of my vaccinated ass. |

Quoted: So. Much. Dumb. Vaccinations have kept too many stupid people alive. These anti flu shot folks are the example. The flu shot does not give you the flu. Get a shot. It could save your life. It will be interesting to see what will happen to the prevailing attitude towards vaccines here on GD if Ebola continues to spread and they successfully develop a vaccine for it. |

Quoted: Me up through 40 years of age: "Ain't scared!" (never actually got the flu) 41 years old: "Kill my shivering/sweating ass now!" 42+: Flu shot please! (Even if it's no guarantee, the probability drop is worth it) |

The government sprayed the flu straight up my nose. True story. Flutism assburgers for you Actually the intranasal vaccine is an attenuated live virus, which does not contain thimerosal. ETA: the shot is inactivated antigen. It's deader than a doornail (and tested for inactivation prior to release), so there is no way you are getting flu from it. |

I got a flu shot last week from a pharmacist. As I was walking away from the counter I stopped and asked
"So will this protect me from the zombie virus in Texas"??? Pharma guy: Yeah, yeah. Zombies, vampires, werewolves. Whatever. You're covered". So I got that goin' for me... |
