| Picked up a 6 cell at a yard sale and want to upgrade to leds. Whats the best/go to one out there? In a perfect world I want the brightest and longest lasting one there is with different settings. I see ones from 10 to $100+. I would like just a plug and play deal, not buy a whole bag of parts and solder it all myself. Thanks. |

You could spend ~$50 on that, or you could buy a $50 LED light that uses modern rechargeable lithium batteries that will put out more light and fit in your pocket. |

And he still is left with a Maglite he wants to upgrade.
I just bought some TerraLux bulbs off Amazon for my old Maglites. |

You wasted your money, even if it was $2. Check out the flashlight section here. |

A D-cell Maglite gives you a less-lethal option that your tiny modern flashlight does not. |

Ive lost two too many "small" flashlights. |

I carried my first one as a professional firefighter until I retired. The Mag Light in my opinion is superior to most other lights for my purposes for two reasons: first is the switch. It works. Every time. And it can be actuated with one hand. No twisting. Second is its size. If you are wearing gloves and can't see, and drop the light; you have a better chance of finding it. Lastly, they are pretty much waterproof. I used D-Cell lights. Combined with the LED they last a long time. 6 hour runtime with 3-D Cells. Six Hours is a long time. Tiny Chinese lights have their place. That place isn't everywhere, all the time. I am far more interested in absolute reliability than the latest gadget. |

Just wondering what the rational is for spending $50 to convert an old one when you can buy a new one for less?

To be fair it gives a different type of less lethal option, if you have a strike bezel, or strobe, or just a really bright light in the right conditions. The light you have, right? |
