So, what's a good starter quadcopter for someone who has never flown one.  I"m looking for something to annoy the hell out of my cat, so it has to be durable.

I currently own around 20 quads and this one is the best bang for the buck. I recommend buying extra batteries.

I've been in RC for almost 30 years and have a decent amount of experience with quads.

I would start small, from a name brand company.  Both of the ones below can either be flown with the included transmitter or you can step up to a high quality transmitter if you find you really get sucked into the hobby.

Two I can easily recommend would be the Blade Nano QX-Can fly off of Spektrum transmitters.

And the new Dromida Ominus which can fly off of a Tactic SLT transmitter.

Then watch the Flite Test video on how to learn to fly a quad.
