A coworker had a Benchmade Presidio that he wanted me to sharpen. It was the first Benchmade I've handled extensively and it was nice.
I'm lusting for one now but I'm not sure which one. I'm thinking something like the Rift but would like to hear some suggestions other models. An auto model would be fine also. Which Benchmade should I get? |

... loyal fan of the formidable 9100 Auto Stryker® for YEARS Too bad states banning switchblades forbid them, and they've been discontinued for a few years now, "Buy cheap and stack deep" Pics not mine, used to have a serrated edge, don't any longer http://www.cobratactical.com/assets/images/benchmade/benchmade_9100.jpg 9101 is the new model. Improved : ) http://www.benchmade.com/products/9101 |
| I would suggest an Griptilian 550, 551 or 553, every Benchmade owner should have at least one...if you are looking for something a little larger and you liked the Rift, look at an 810 Contego....I would also suggest one of the new Stryker models, either the 908 or 909 depending on your tastes. Also know that Benchmades customer service is beyond excellent, they will clean, sharpen and give each knife a "tune up" for free with their Lifesharp warranty service. I just sent four of mine in this week and they emailed me that it would be a 3 to 4 day turn around time. |

I don't think so, that may be for auto/assisted openers only. Quoted:

Do all the Benchmades have the button lock on the top of the handle? I don't think so, that may be for auto/assisted openers only. The Presidio I sharpened was an assisted-opening so that would seem to me sense. |

Excellent, thanks for the clarification. |

They make a helluva nice knife. I carry this one:
Auto Presidio 5000SBK It has a certain sentimental value to me. (pic wasn't working so now it's a link) |
| For the longest time, I thought the spyderco PM2 was the perfect carry knife, but nobody had them in stock at a reasonable price. I bought a Benchmade 940 to hold me over until I could find the PM2. Once I finally had both side by side, I realized how awesome the 940 is. I still like the PM2, but quite honestly it sits in the knife drawer while the Benchmade is clipped in my pocket 98% of the time. It's also nearly impossible to beat benchmades customer service. |

The Stryker is a great design, the Mini version is the perfect size for discrete daily carry. |

I have a griptilian , a presidio, a fullsize auto, and Auto AFO. Also i have a benchmade 530 which is great for EDC its like paper thin.
I would recommend a benchmade mini griptilian if you want to carry the knife all the time. Also that benchmade 530 that i mentioned is the sex. Its not a hard use knife. but great for everything you do on a daily basis like opening envelopes and cardboard boxes. The benchmade mini grip would be my choice, Itll start your addiction and your collection will grow from there. Good luck

I currently carry either a mini-rukus or a rift every day but have others over the years and they are all first class. I thought I really wanted an adamas but when I got my hands on one they are very thick and bulky, didn't like it. Hard to go wrong with a benchmade though.
