"the two party system will be the death of this country"
it is AMAZING how many people have been brainwashed to think that EITHER political party, rep or dem, gives a shit about any of us. yet people spew forth the ignorant biases continually. People do not realize that tribalism has taken over this country. as soon as you state what party you support, idiots automatically label you and then you are no longer a person to them. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WASHINGTON WAS TALKING ABOUT. This country will NEVER get better until we squash this red vs blue idiocy. I have never and never will say i support either party. I am an AMERICAN, RED, white, and BLUE. WAKE UP!!!! |

It's not like we have a a law against more than 2 parties. ![]() Every ballot in my state has six or seven parties represented. The thing is, most Americans are swift enough to recognize the latter several as fringe kooks, unworthy of consideration. The OP has a huge "tell" in his post--"tribalism." He's a liberal here to sow discord and discourage Republican voters. One of many.

It's not that I support Republicans so much as that I passionately oppose Democrats. This. The last election I voted R for president, but L pretty much down the line. Although my sheriff is a D and he is great so he gets my vote. The Mexican Cartels put a hit out on him so you know he is doing something right. |

This time for sure. ![]() What I said above. Folks are dressing up my phone ITT. |

I don't like either party. I worked in City Hall once and saw how local politicians adhere to the lines of their Central Committee. I don't think it's any different at state or national level. So, whoever gets access to the decision makers at the top can buy them off and set the tone for the rest of the nation.
Both major parties have betrayed America and Americans. |

I am an AMERICAN, RED, white, and BLUE. WAKE UP!!!! Wasshington was talking about the two parties that formed out of his administration; the the pro-British pro-navy Federalists and pro-French anti-navy Republicans (Jefferson's party). The XYZ affair proved the Federalists right. Nevertheless the Republicans went on to win multiple elections, but they adopted the pro-navy view of the Federalists. In the modern US the Democratic Party is the party of big government. All Democrats want is a powerful government and control of that government, and they don't care what means are required to achieve that. They are, essentially, a fascist party. Republicans are perhaps only 50% good, but Democrats are 100% bad. |

If we can only get the Republicans in charge again, they will surely reduce the size and spending of government, and get rid of some gun laws. This time for sure. ![]() Bush in fact made sure the AWB expired. He passed tort reform to protect firearms. And Rebublican appointees supported the RTKBAs in key decisions. He also attempted to reform social security, which proved a bridge too far. While no doubt his administration had plenty of faults, the reality is he had to deal with the will of the American people. The American people are getting the big government they want. |

Really? I live in the same state, but there are ALWAYS only 2 parties on it. But I'm much further north and to the east. maybe that's why gerrymandering is a mofo! Where I'm at there are plenty of parties, only two are viable. It is inherent in our system. If there is one leftist party and two conservative parties it essentially means the left is going to win. |

Is that so? then how come I was only offered a 'republican or democratic' ballot in the last election? should I have asked for the '3rd party' ballot? |

Amazing that your Washington quote is only found here in this thread. It does sound fake. However, Washington was concerned about the two parties that came out of his administration. Hence his famous quote on foreign treaties. He wanted to stay out of the world war that was brewing. His advisors leaned French or British. As it was, we were sucked into the war, and as a result the navy received funding. The Quasi War, the 1st Barbary War, the War of 1812 and the 2nd Barbary War were all results of the world war. As were the wars of latin American independence. |

Quoted:
It's not like we have a a law against more than 2 parties. Actually, election laws all over the country are extremely prejudicial to 3rd parties. And of course they have no money to compete. If Citizens United is overturned somehow, 3rd parties, and maybe even the 2nd party will have Zero voice. |

Quoted:
Is that so? then how come I was only offered a 'republican or democratic' ballot in the last election? should I have asked for the '3rd party' ballot? Usually I've received a ballot based upon what party I'm in. Which has been either Republican or Libertarian. The fundamental reality of our system is that 3rd parties only act as restraints (usually minor) on the two major parties. If the "progressives" are all Democrats and conservatives split between Republican and Libertarian, the election will be won by Democrats (unless conservatives far outnumber "progressives"). We won't have more then two viable parties with our system. It is possible a party will die and be replaced. |
