That's awesome!
I have a feeder on my patio and have a regular group of about 5-6 that frequent it. I have one that sits on the tree nearby, and every time one comes in to feed he dive bombs them and runs em off. A few times i've been standing there and he comes in and hovers 1 foot from my face, it's nuts. |

We have watched little male hummingbirds that will "guard" a feeder and run off any others that try to eat at it. They are so busy that they don't even eat from it themselves.
I've read that these birds can fly so quickly that we appear to be moving in slow motion to them and that is why they show almost no fear of us. |

I was at an acquaintance's house a few weeks back and she has a bunch of feeders out. When the bird density gets high it's interesting to hear them fight/squabble. Every minute or so one would zip by me only a few feet away. He was coming right at me! |

They are really neat little birds. They are like the fighter pilots of the bird world. The way they fight each other, and buzz each other is amazing. When I change the feeders, they just buzz around me till I'm done. Then back to feeding , fighting, and guarding the feeder. Here Coons like the nectar. But there is an old Farmer remedy to get rid of them, that is deadly. You must have a very fast camera to freeze their wings. My cheapo won't do it, but the Nikon isn't too bad. Nice pictures Old_Painless !! |

About two weeks ago here in MS it was similar to that. I had two feeders going and it was a madhouse of hummingbirds. I quit filling the feeders up after they were emptying both out in less than a day. Then we got a cool wether weekend and that really cut down on the birds. Filling them back up again and down to about a half dozen. |

We have a couple year round but in September, the migration is on. They're here now fueling up for the trip to Mexico. When we get a good cold front, they'll wing it on south. Until then, they are feeding like crazy. We have 30+ on our feeders at any given time right now.
I'll see if I can get some pic's to post up. |

Nope! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/D7100/DSC_2345_zps5de48027.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/D7100/DSC_2346_zps748d1b1c.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/D7100/DSC_2359_zps2fc311cf.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/D7100/DSC_2368_zps026f8139.jpg Beautiful pictures! |

Our hummingbirds are all winging their way back to Mexico for the winter. I suppose some of the birds you see in Texas could be the same bunch making their way South, it's the right time of the year edit Ok I looked that up before I posted it
Can you imagine how much sugar these guys would burn up flying all the way to South America? Those little wings will beat a bazillion times. Truly amazing. |

Ever since I was a kid in elementary school and I saw a hummingbird for the first time, in a animal picture book type thing. The Humming bird has always been my favorite non-bird of prey. I rarely get to see them in real life, but I definitely enjoy seeing them. I get lucky to see them even just once a year. I'd buy a feeder but there are cats around. |
