So how do you old people do it? 42 and starting to feel like "It's all downhill". Am I gonna have to trade in for a 24 year old wife and a Corvette? Or will I find enjoyment in sitting around wih a bunch of other old people complaining about the price of cholesterol medication or back pills?  Is this what they call an existential crisis?

In my 20s so I prob. dono what I am talking about, but talking to older people I have seen that those that stay busy, stay young. If you sit around and watch tv, you basically age 3x as fast and are unhappy. Try new things, challenge yourself, learn new things, and truly enjoy those around you.

Bro, if you aren't lifting, start. Helps you get your natural testosterone boosted and at 42, you ain't as old and dead as you think.

And Advil. 40+ requires copious amounts of Advil.

You'll still sit around and bitch about feeling old and achy with other geezers, but you earned it.

I'm 41, the same age that my grandfather (who I am named after) was when he died.  I had a lousy first marriage, 2 years ago I met this awesome lady and we got married this past June.  My grandfather was an alcoholic for many years, but had quit drinking the last couple years of his life.  It always made me sad to think he didn't get to enjoy more of his new life.  My growing up was not a lot of fun, then the years I spent in the shitty marriage, my life now is the best it's ever been and I am truly and completely happy, but in the back of my mind I always think of my grandfather and wonder how long I'm gonna have to enjoy it.

Over 40? Dont trust your farts.

I turned 46 last October and took a total of 3 pills a day.

Im now taking about 9-10 and two asthma inhalers one of which costs $90 a month, and that is with a co pay. Oh, I forgot about the sleep apnea.

The asthma shit just started last year, but now I cant shower, run or sometimes just do any random thing without puking up phlegm.

Cant breathe, bunch of phlegm, sleep sucks, runny pharts.........

Cant wait to see what is next.

Sneaking up on 56 myself.  I am the type that needs to be and keep BUSY.

I've lost 10lbs since I retired from the telco a month ago.  The old adage "I don't know how I got anything done when I was working for a living" is so very true.

As you get older you have to double down.  Keep physically active daily.

My father in law is a roll model for me. We spent the past couple weeks cutting firewood & cleaning up the mess left behind in his woods after an F-1 tornado went through this past June.   He's 78 and I've seen him out work your average teenager.  Left my 15yr old nephew whining about being tired.

I lit into him & said, you better keep up with your grandpa or I'll make sure you get diapers for Christmas this year.

I think you got the wrong idea, sonny. I turned 65 in august. three days later I climbed the Middle Teton (12804), solo. This morning I went bowhunting- climbed from my house to over 8000', covered about six miles through deadfall and thick timber. with a pack.

So, what was your excuse again?

He said genetics.

I can eat anything I want and dont have high cholesterol. My co worker eats beans, rice and broccoli every day and his CL is around 400.

He goes to the gym and plays soccer and has unregulated CL, me, I cant fucking breathe but I can eat whatever I want.

Doest look so simple when viewed that way does it?

Life begins at 40.  Kids should be taking care of themselves or gone, your finances should be in good shape compared to your 20s,

you probably have less to worry about quantitatively.

44 here. Look and feel better than I did at 34.

Get in shape, if you aren't.  Develop a mindset of "There's a lot of fun stuff I want to do that I've never done, I better start now or I never will", and just start doing it.  For some guys yeah it's a 24 yr old wife and a corvette. For others it's travelling or fishing, hunting, whatever.  Amazing the effect it has on your mindset.  Cut loose the past, however good or bad it was.  It's gone, so look to the future.

There's a retirement home I have to drive by to get out of my neighborhood. Every time I drive by and see some older crippled person in a wheelchair out front, I think to myself "that can be me in a few years, I have a lot of stuff to do and see before I get there" and I just do it.

Life is what you make it. Take that shit by the horns or it will take you.

Sage advice.

41 here, problem I face is energy (or the lack thereof).

I have a job where I am on my feet all week, it can be pretty physically demanding at times (carrying heavy shit, climbing ladders, working in hot/uncomfortable places). Add in 3 hours of commuting each day and by the time the weekend rolls around, my tank is empty.

Just lack the energy to engage in any of my hobbies and interests. Truck project is just sitting, haven't gone shooting in a couple of years etc.
It is all I can do to find the energy to take the 1/2 of a weekend day that I need to get my stuff for the upcoming work week sorted out (laundry, car wash, organize tools, charge batteries etc).

ETA: I have tried to make some changes too. Quit smoking, pretty much quit drinking, eat fairly healthy, I am not fat either.
It has helped me tough it out at work but I got nothin left for my time.

I'm 63 and aside from a few aches and pains occasionally things aren't much different from when I was young.  I lift weights enough to stay fit, jog, eat right, and feel pretty good nearly all the time.  I'm enjoying life more than I did when I was young.  I don't worry, I'm more accepting of things outside my control, and my attitude and outlook on life is improved.  Many of the old ways of seeing things that hampered my enjoyment of life have been discarded and replaced with better things.  I wouldn't go back if I could.

I'm 41. I started running half marathons right before I turned 40. It was probably a bit of an existential crisis. Start eating better and exercising. Lose weight if you need. Age is a state of mind. I see 30 year olds who are old in their mind. My 86 year old Grandma is very spry, very sharp, and only takes one blood pressure med and one cholesterol med. She's not overweight.

Stop accumulating stuff. Instead, go experience new things, go new places. Take up a new hobby, start skiing or hiking. Read more. Challenge your brain. It's a use it or lose it proposition.

Don't have an affair. If you need to do something, go buy a Porsche.
