For someone like me with Aimpoint taste on an NcStar budget
Vortex Strikefire red/green dot or Primary Arms Classic 30mm red dot. |

niether. I'd get this. 10,000 hour battery life, integral mount and uses AA batteries for 30 bucks more. The savings in batteries alone will save you 30 bucks, plus you dont need to buy a mount. It still looks like an aimpoint. It looks like the M4 instead of the M3.

But an AP PRO will last a lifetime, take all the abuse you can dish out, batteries last 3 years left on the entire time. Best value out there for a quality red dot. But I voted for the Primary option in the poll. They're a great company. |

I'm specifically referring to the price of the optic itself though I have been into red dots since the mid 90s when I was alot of shoe and hat sizes smaller. Get the one with good battery life that uses common batteries and unless you throw it down the drive way it will probably work. |

200 hour battery life is a killer...
You need to look for something that has battery life that goes 5000+ hrs I think even the Bushnell micro can get into the 1000s of hours.. I looked at the PA website and they have two models...one is 10000 hr micro and the other is the 50k hrs pro model....I wouldn't consider anything other than those 2 models. I personally bought a discontinued Aimpoint micro about 3 years ago. It's been ON since I bought it, always ON and ready to go on my patrol rifle. It's taken a couple of spills on concrete and always held zero... Battery life is also why I won't buy an eotech.... If I were deploying to outer Asscrackistan for a 3-month recon patrol with the DeltaSEELs, The Aimpoint T-1 would be my choice ( It's awesome, I have a couple) For a defense rifle in case something goes bump in the night, checking a battery every few weeks is really no big deal. And the Eotech lets me make hits much, much faster than anything else. Now, as to the OP... what's the role of the gun on which said sight is going? If it's a range blaster, then by all means, buy the inexpensive dot, and honestly Vortex and PA are both good companies that put out decent products. I'd probably buy whichever I found the best deal on. If it's your "social" gun. I'd just shoot irons until I could save up for a little better optic. I just don't think there's anything under $400 (new) that I would trust on a gun with which I might have to fight one day. |

I have a surefire on my carbine and it's been there for 3years now. I've changed the battery twice and I shoot it 3 weekends a month. It is what it is. I like it, it works for me.
I also have 2 PA microdots. One on my AK and one on my A R pistol both have been awesome. I love PA for their customer service, the guys that work the store are awesome too. I was in Houston a year ago and drove down to Pearland to see the store. It's not really a store but the dude there was cool as hell and recommended a bunch of places to go rent a gun and do some shooting. I whole heartedly recommend PA and Vortex as well. The Vortex guys at the NRA show were really cool too. |
