My big decision is between a 9x19 and 45. We already have 9mm handguns, so I could share ammo, whereas a 45 would mean stocking another size round. I'm going to go fingerbang a few this afternoon, but am looking for more opinions. The only thing anyone can seem to agree on "Glock has a single stack 9mm coming out soon" and the reviews I've read don't go trend towards one or the other. I'm not a Glock fanboy so that doesn't help me decide.

My contenders are:
XDS 9mm 3.3 barrel
XDS .45 3.3 barrel
M&P 9mm 3.1 barrel
M&P45c 4 barrel
Glock 36

The Keltec P-11 and PF-9 are also contenders if I go 9x19.

Can I go wrong with any of these?

Not all of the choices you listed are single stack.

I vote either M&P shield, or Walther PPS.

I don't have experience with those on your list but here is what I do have experience with:

Sig 225, 239, 398, and Walther PPS. I like all of them but the one I like the best is the PPS (it's the least expensive, too). The PPS is thinner and it has two visible features which let you know it's loaded. That's a super safety feature the others don't offer. It's easy to shoot and very accurate as are the others.

I can't think of a reason why .45 is better than 9mm with modern ammo.

I pocket carry a Sig P938 VERY comfortably.

I confess that I am having an issue with the mag release right now.  Sometimes when I put the pistol on my nightstand I noticed that the mag has been released.  Not good.

I'm in process of testing out a stiffer holster, which should solve the problem.

I'm not a fan of using a single action hammer fired gun of that configuration for a pocket gun due to possible snagging and lint causing issues but if it works for you that's fine.

Walther PPS is the answer you seek.  Thin, small but not too small, accurate.

Thanks, will add Kahr CM9 and Walther PPS and CCP to the fingerbang list.

I am of the opinion that a defensive 9mm round is probably enough force, but I'm wanting to rule out 45 either just yet. I am leaning towards a 9mm though.

I realized that they're all not single stack after posting, but I'm after anything compact.

Not liking the Sig P938 since it's SAO for reasons already stated.

Very slim profile with the VZ grips, 14+1 standard capacity with the ability to use 75B 16 round mags and an SP01 mag base to add +2.

Excellent aftermarket support from Cajun Gun Works and CZ Custom if you want to tweak it. Can be made SAO with a trigger change

I had a P-11.  Double stack, so it's not the easiest to conceal of the guns that are currently on the market.  Trigger is heavy.  Dropped it in the restroom one time while trying out a cheap IWB holster (threw the holster in the trash, after that), and the round in the chamber had a slight dimple on the primer, afterwards.

THIS! A couple weeks ago I looked at a Shield and an LC9s and the LC9s blows the shield out of the water with it's awesome trigger pull.  I also didn't really like the ratio of the grip and slide length on the shield.  The only potentially bad thing about the LC9s is the manual safety and the magazine safety, but I didn't really care about those after pulling the trigger on it.

The magazine safety on Ruger's SR series guns can be removed quite easily.  I suspect the same may be true of the LC9s?

Being an M & P fan..

Sheild or 9c depending on hand size and carry position.

* the sheild in .40 fits my hand better than the 9mm version *

Same here.  I have multiple pistols in .45 and .40.  I carry a XD .40 SC.

I am considering a new single stack carry pistol, I was looking at the XDS .45.  I asked myself, why .45?  The 9mm has higher capacity, and shoots well.

I am still on the fence between a XDS 9mm and the Shield.  I need to handle both again- I think the range I am going to this weekend actually has them available for rent.

He included the M&P45C. That thing's the same size as a G19.

OP, your list is all over the place.
