So my laptop will not turn on, even with the charging cord plugged in. What can I do? I have Itunes and a ton of pics and shit on it that I don't want to lose...am I SOL?

Make sure the battery is in all the way?

Where are your backups?

Have you demagnetized the memory in it yet? That can be a problem. It's pretty easy to fix. Look around you. Can you fashion some sort of rudimentary lathe?

Back-ups?

Take battery out completely (if it can come out)  plug it up, make sure outlet works and see if it boots up.

If not, take hard drive out, get an enclosure for it, plug it into a desktop and get your pictures off.

Any indicator lights when the power is plugged in?

Replace the battery first. If that fails then the power circuitry is probably toast. The data on the drive is probably fine but you'll need to hook it up to another computer to get it off.

ETA: What laptop model are we talking about here?

You can always pull the hard drive and make an external hard drive to plug into a different PC.

Wife's laptop did the same after a video issue.  Just get a new computer and enclosure as mentioned above.

20 bucks for CopyTrans and you can pull the data off your iPod to throw back onto iTunes on your new computer.

The odds are low that this will help but, try it for giggles anyway. We have a certain model laptop at work that have this issue from time to time with the power interface.

Pull the battery out.
Pull the power cord out.
Push the power button and hold it for about 30 seconds.  ( will not power on since everything is pulled out duh!) This will kill any residual power in the system that may be hung up.

Reinsert battery and power cord.
Hit power button.
Good luck!

Like I said low odds but , we have a model with a know issue and this works on them most every time.

The red wasn't a question

You'll likely have to take the back plate off of it to get to the hard drive. As far as HOW to do so, it's different from one computer to another, and your best bet is to hit up The Great And All-Knowing, Google.

Buy a new laptop.  Pay someone to transfer the data.  Make sure you retain the old hard drive.
