I am thinking of getting a bigger ssd drive. I found a decent deal on an Intel 520 series  drive. Is the 520 series too old, should I get a newer model?
The 240gb drive is $110.

Not an expert but I would look into a newer drive personally. Intel 520 is a higher class drive with 5yr warranty though.

Hang on Googling benchmarks....

Get the samsung. On amazon you can get the 840 evo 250gb for $118.99. Intel isn't bad, but samsung is industry standard.

I own over 10 ssd drives. Samsung is best.

I'm basically ignorant regarding SSDs, but isn't a memory chip a memory chip?

I can't remember the manufacturers rating SSD speeds or much else other than storage capacity. Processor chips get speed rated...but SSD architecture appears to be just memory without processing capacity.

In for some edumactation...

AnandTech has some benchmarks: Might not be a bad idea actually. Reasonably close in performance with 5yr warranty.

Intel 520:

Vs a similarly priced drive: Crucial MX100

If not the 520, then how about the 530 series?

I have a 530 and it's a trooper.

I hear great things about the Samsungs but for the price it was a no-brainer to go with the Intel drive, for me.
