Post your finds and info you can add to help out others find cool stuff.

So Far these are my finds.

5 indian cents 1873-1907
1 large cent 1852
4 Colonial Flat buttons, 3 with complete loops in the back including 1 Tombac
1 Civil War era button
2 lead balls of unknown origin although they were 6-8 inches deep, so they have been there a while. .66 caliber
silver earing
one cross
silver pin
1 unknown medallion with a church on it
1 1950s era subway token I think.
1 fake gold ring that got me excited for a few seconds.
and a bunch of clad coins. maybe $10 worth, not going to count it.

I just started a few week ago with a Whites CoinMaster and I already see the big limitations of that, assuming that I am not finding silver coins because I can not see deep enough. I think I will build a test bed to find out.

It's weird, my uncle who lived in Key West found more things without a metal detector while looking for old bottles than I ever found metal detecting with my $600 detector.
He used to wear on a chain around his neck the Spanish shipwreck coins he found. I have crates of the bottles he gave me, but this is the most interesting thing he passed to me:

At one time, he used to have a blunderbuss that he found, but that was stolen from his shed. He told me about a bronze swivel gun that he snagged while fishing for Jewfish that he never managed to get into the boat. I always wanted to go back and find it.

Beaches, public conservation lands, and I did my brother's 1850 farm house.

Anywhere I think I might find something.

Right now most of my old stuff is coming from this spot:

I downloaded a hand drawn map of my area form 1850. There was an old homestead that is no longer there.

I found debri about where it should be, and an old over grown cranberry bog. I found most of the stuff along an old dirt road that is now a walking path threw the woods that goes from the old homestead that is no longer there and the bog.

DO you think the Etrac goes as deep as the safari?

I am debating between the safari and the etrac. Might buy one this tax free weekend. Local dealer has the etrac in stock

How do you like the double number system?

I juggled the Etrac and the Explorer SE for awhile - but finally just went with the Etrac. The Safari is a good machine, but I felt like I would outgrow it after awhile and didn't want to have to buy yet another machine. I am so spoiled by the fe-co numbers that I would have a very hard time going back to anything else. It is a must have now. I bought mine from a company called New England Detectors, I am not sure if they are still in business or not but they had the best price I could find anywhere at the time.

I got it at a local shop new for $1295 after $100 trade in on my Coinmaster. It is no tax weekend so that was out the door.

I was not exactly planning on spending that kind of money and it wiped out my gun fund, so I hope I really like this thing. I went in to get a Garret AT Pro and she gave me such a good price on the E-Trac I decided to do it.

That is a really good deal. I had an AT Pro, sold it. I had to take it back to Garrett in Garland, TX twice due to falsing issues. Plus, I found it to be really nose heavy. Get to learn the Etrac and its different patterns, and start to experiment by creating your own and see what works for you. I highly recommend Andy Sabisch's book too.

Here's a couple of mine that I have pics of. I have a bin full of old shell casings and random coins and stuff. Nothing really valuable yet . These are from when I first started with my F2. I had really started getting into the hobby and bought a used  Explorer SE then sold it. I started to get decent with it then we had another kid and I now have no time to go out and play.
I did find a lady's gold and sapphire class ring from 1950's that she had no recollection of losing,  but it was her initials on it. That was very cool and valuable but it was returned. She lives in a old mansion from the late 1800's so I can go back and look whenever I like.

My hunting buddy.

More from the church. Color isn't true in the pics they are a very cool emerald green.

I used an Ace 250 for about a year when I was first getting into it. This was before the 350 came out - I made some good finds with it, and it was a great detector for around $200. It belongs to a co-worker now, he is still using it.

Read around in the newbie threads.  http://metaldetectingforum.com/index.phpYou can get info on the most likely places to find the goods. Such as the rootball area of large trees where people would sit in the shade and stuff fall out of pockets.

Do some historical research on old parks and meeting places. Old churches are great. Find old homesteads and foundation walls. Research is half the game imo.
I know a location on private land where supposedly rev war troops both continental and British camped and the rough location of the fording to get there.  That plantation ruins where I found the military button is supposedly where the officers would quarter. I still need to go back and dig deeper to substantiate the story by finding something of the period older than that button. Cowpens/ Guilford Courthouse campaign/ "Race to the Dan"  was in my back yard literally.
