not sure where to post stippling questions so I thought the general section might be a good place, if not let me know where to go and ill post this their. I am using a simple soldering iron with a normal rounded tip, and I notice different plastics take differently to the soldering iron, I did my hk45c and the stippling is a very grippy yet soft feeling to it, it grips good but does not hurt the bare hand, the magpul mo grips I don't think stipple all that well but the bcm stippled really good for me ( the grip ) any way tonight I was doing a Mossberg 930 stock ( normal not pistol grip stock ) and the plastic melted fine but it would not produce a rough or even soft grippy feel to it, it just "rounded" over so to speak and it feels "bland" I noticed the salient 930 seems to have a nice semi rough look to it, how can I produce that sort of look and how can I get a grippy feel ?
here is a pic from today, also notice the rim where the checkering used to be, I would like to some how get that out of their so it looks like it came stippled

If there's any existing checker or texture, I usually just take a dremel sander to it, then the point or wedge on the iron will bring the edge back.
