Looking to buy a used 4 wheeler for 14 year old son. Budget is approx. $2k.

So... Head to craigslist.

Over the last three days I have responded to no less than 12 ads.

Guess how many return emails/texts or phone calls I have received....yep. 0..... Big fat ZERO!!!

Went through the same thing a couple months ago buying a boat, out of 15 or so, 4 people responded and every single
One was so freakin misrepresented it was ridiculous.

Here is some tips if your selling one Craigslist

1) use a recent picture, I dont want to know what it looked like when you bought it, I want to know what it looks like now.

2) dont list your trashed and destroyed item as being in "good" condition or list it as "mint" then explain how it doesn't run and only
    Needs xyz parts etc...

3) return inquiries you receive. Check your email a couple times a day...etc.

4) remove the damn ad if it's sold, don't cop an attitude with me if I call on your ad and you sold it a month ago but never deleted your ad.

Rant off...

I was going to respond to this.  But I'm just not interested enough to come up with a clever response.

Why even bother with Craig's list...they're so anti-gun, they stink.

Posted some pictures of holsters I had for sale, boy, they were quick to pull them down saying that it violates their no firearm policy!

Ive had pretty good luck with CL. In fact, last Thursday I traded a mountain bike that was collecting dust for a good set of Ping golf clubs, Taylor Made fairway wood, a Scotty Cameron putter, and a couple Ping hybrids.

You just have to suffer the idiots if you want to buy something on Craigslist.  Go in expecting to never get a return call/message.

What do your inquiries look like? Do you specifically mention the item in detail (not "I saw your ATV listing," say "I saw your 2002 Polaris 4-wheeler 175cc ad" but don't just copy the subject line), your intended purpose and that you'll come to the meeting able to take it home that day after paying cash?

I put in an ad a couple years ago to rent an apartment.  I put in big fucking bold letters at the bottom not to call me until 5pm because I was working and could not answer the phone or show the place until 5 PM.

Fucking people started calling at 7am all day long.

What pisses me off is the ads will show "transmission slips, but it's a $4 part to fix", so fix the damn thing for $4. But you really know it's going to cost a bunch more than $4 because if it was a simple fix, it would have been done already.

Or the people will put in their ad, "only used twice", but want the original cost for the item.

In due later this month for knee replacements so I'm looking for a 2 wheeled walker. New they run $34, I've seen some asking $25 to $40 for a used one.

Being a seller on CL isn't a picnic either.

You list something and get a pile of responses.  Many of them are just plain idiots.  They ask questions that were answered in the ad.  They offer half price even though you said your price was firm.  They offer to trade shit when you said cash only.  They agree with your price, so you setup a time for them to show up and then you turn down everyone else...and then they never show.  Or they show up and change their tune, offering half when they show up...for no good reason.  Just because they can, because they are there with the cash and they know you turned down later offers because they were showing up.

I list something now and if someone responds with an offer that meets my price, I tell them fine, if you are the first one here with the cash, you get it.  I'm not holding shit for anyone.  If someone else beats you here with the cash, I am selling it to them.

If a response is below my minimum price, smells like a Nigerian scam, or is any other form of asshattery, you don't even get a response.

I've had good luck with craigslist.

emails have my name and phone in the subject.  tells them a lot of good things about my inquiry, IMO.

I never meet them at my place.  Always a public location and usually halfway between us.

Are you making an offer on your first contact effort?  Too low perhaps?

You get what you pay for with craigslist. And CL is free

Having said that, just about any and all means of buying/selling online has its problems/quirks. I have used the EE, eBay, Craig'sList, Gunsamerica, Gunbroker, Auction Arms, etc. and every one of them have buyers that can't read or bitch about terms AFTER they have bought something as well as sellers who have fucked up as well.

You should try posting an ad on an outdoor forum for your deer club that needs members.

The stupid hurts.

There is always a contact number in the ad.  Four people will always post their phone numbers with "call me".  I don't handle memberships, I just post the stuff on the internet, the contact number in the ad is for the guy who handles memberships.

No, we don't have 1/2 price memberships for campers/turkey hunters/rabbit hunters. Membership is the same price, the one posted in the ad.

The ad clearly states: call so-and-so at  this number for any questions and to arrange a tour of the property.....followed by 10 responses asking questions I'm not going to answer.

Are you sure your phone messages and/or emails are not scaring them off?

I currently have a bow for sale on CL. Twice people have expressed interest in meeting to buy it and then no more contact.
