I saw in the thread about the idiot that carried his AR to Sky Harbor Airport and how everyone was saying he deserved to get arrested for muzzle sweeping the woman and her daughter.  After watching the video of it happening, it looked like he simply unslinged his rifle by grabbing the handguard and talking it off his shoulder.  His hands were no where near the trigger.  This got me to thinking about shoulder holsters.  If you think that man deserved to be arrested for that "muzzle sweep" do you also think anyone wearing a horizontal shoulder holster should be arrested?  What about those people that carry a firearm in their car and it happens to "muzzle sweep" people as they are driving.

Help me to understand the logic here.

And obviously he was an idiot for carrying in the airport, but this thread is about muzzle sweeps, not the airport incident.

I believe it's more a thing when the firearm is being handled.

Bingo!

If a gun is holstered and I go prone with someone behind me they'll probably get muzzled.  No real way to avoid that.

If I draw my gun and muzzle them there's a problem.

So taking a rifle and unslinging it with no hand near the trigger is still sweeping?

That is why I carry muzzle down sometimes.

Holsters cover the trigger to prevent firing. The trigger on a slung rifle could potentially be caught on a piece of gear or something else.

It's probably more about an unholstered firearm being handled and sweeping someone. Somebody carrying in a shoulder holster doesn't bother me-the trigger is covered by the holster and nobody's hand is on the gun. Someone uncasing a gun and sweeping me? Totally different story.

Also, a good shoulder holster is great if you know you're gonna be in a car for a long drive. I love my Miami Classic.

It can be, depending on how you do it.
