They will never be as good as Legos
|
| When I was in 1st grade, I visited a classmate's house for play time. When I got there, he had them in his room. I don't know what the adult equivalent is, but he pretty much became persona non grata in our social group. To this day, fuck that guy and his shit tier toys. |

I made a 1911 out of a Technics set. |

I'll just leave this here...

I concur. But they do try hard No they don't. The Mega Blocks I've handled resemble 3rd rate, re-issued, 1990s plastic model kits. They have injection marks, incomplete molds, no clutch power, they SUCK! They rely on franchise rights from Assassin's Creed, Power Rangers, Halo, etc. They're the Ed Hardy of construction bricks. Fuck Mega Block. |

Yeah, but they have much cooler subject matter including HALO and military stuff, which LEGO never does.... True....but.... My kid got into collecting the Star Wars Lego sets at an early age and literally had every, if not two or multiples of each set. I often grumbled about buying them because some weren't exactly cheap. He kept them in the sealed box, all practically mint and stacked floor to ceiling in a spare bedroom. Fast forward to his late teen years and we tossed them up on Ebay. We made some serious coin on those. One of the Death Star sets sold for 900 bucks.

| My boys have Lego and Mega Bloks. The Mega Bloks have improved significantly over the past few years in their fit. I consider them now equal to Lego, the gold standard. But the Mega Blok Call of Duty line cannot be beat. And they just announced their LCAC and had it on display at ComicCon San Diego. Wow is it good looking. It will be under the tree this year for one of the boys or for dad. |

As a long time Lego snob I have to disagree. The new Megablok sets are actually pretty awesome and their fit is equal to Lego's. Have any of you guys seen the COD sets they have now? Mags, optics and stocks can be swapped out to piece together your own rifles.
I was a non believer as well, but my son was given a few sets for Christmas and I am now extremely impressed. Nothing like how they were when I was a kid...hell, even the instruction books are better. The pieces used in each step are actually highlighted in position so they are easier to see at a quick glance. If you are going by how they were in the past, I totally agree but the stuff from the last couple of years is just as good as Lego |

Whoa what the heck are you talking about!?! They aren't a replacement for Legos, they are a Legos trainers! Legos are too small for young kids, so mega blocks first then Legos later when they aren't a choking hazard. Sheesh. You are thinking of DUPLO. Those are the larger blocks for younger kids. |

Had a shit ton of Legos and a few Mega Blocks growing up. Each group occupied separate territories within the room and seldom got along. War was a constant between the two groups and the Legos had a far superior air force along with more powerful armored units. Racial tension was high in our playroom.
In all seriousness though, it was sort of like a massacre. My brother and I liked having the Mega Blocks around so we could blow them away without caring. The pieces themselves were always of much lower quality. We tried to prove this one time by melting a Mega Block alongside a Lego on a hot lamp. The Lego won. |

And Lego makes big blocks, I think they call them Duplo. I still have all my Legos, mostly medieval and pirates. I'll pass them on to the kid in a few years. |

My 3 year old has 3 big zip-top bags of large Mega Blocks and one Thomas the Train Mega Blocks that he's gotten. I've only ever seen the big ones, so that's all I know of. As a kid, I didn't have many Legos, but I did have a decent amount of Lincoln Logs. I've bought my son 3 big sets of those as well. |

Mega comes in a three sizes: "gigantor" for the toddlers, a Duplo-compatible size as the next step, and a Lego-compatible size. |

Anybody who thinks LEGO toys aren't badass enough must not remember Gen1&2 Space Police. http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100512020040/lego/images/7/71/1988_Catalog_UK_Blacktron-Base.jpg Those are the "bad guys." Yes, they've got lasers and AA cannons and all sorts of awesome shit. Even the bad guys are fucking cool. Even Gen2 had some cool stuff, from M-Tron to the newer Space Police, which tended to be slightly cooler in most respects. This is the Gen2: http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100519205539/lego/images/thumb/4/46/1991_M-Tron_SPI_Blacktron.jpg/519px-1991_M-Tron_SPI_Blacktron.jpg I've got that starbase, it was badass when I was 6. |
