Arfcom docs, will I keep this leg?

I was sawing small saplings down at knee height and I bumped the sawblade into my leg.  I'll see if it let me videotape the stitching procedure.

Xray to make sire it didnt get into the shin bone:

Tell your grandkids you got it fighting a bigfoot or something. Don't tell them you suck at chainsaw.

Dad nearly lost his leg last year from a cut not much worse than that.  Infection set it badly within 3 days and got ugly fast.  Lost a big chunk of skin covering his ankle that was recovered with a skin graph.   Missed 10 weeks of work once all was said and done.  Needless to say he respects his chainsaw much more than he used to.

That's..... Not really bad or graphic. Probably hurts though.

glad the leg is still there....chainsaws can bite quickly.  Chaps look better and better every year.  Always felt like I didn't want to deal with the extra heat.

No, he said that hes going to run the needle below both cuts and pull them together. I told him to give me extra novacaine first and to scrub it extra well after that other poster related his dads ankle infection story.

Y'all are a tough crowd to please. Should i go out into the parking lot, fire up the saw again and try harder on the other leg?

Damn.

Watched a chainsaw vid last year.  Said on average it was 127 stitches or around there for a chainsaw injury.

Yup, infection is a big thing any time your skin is "opened." I severely mangled a finger and thumb, both with exposed bone (at different times) over 26 years as a mechanic, and both times I was given Keflex as a prophylactic measure.

My understanding is that chaps won't keep you out of the ER, they'll just keep you out of ICU and maybe put you a little further back in the triage pileup.

In my experience though, they triage drippy stuff like that faster one way or the other.  Less cleanup.

What part of the bar did it and was the saw at full or partial throttle?

ETA: Gotta give you points, it looks like the chain was pretty sharp.

My dad had a saw kick back and chewed into his leg.  It nicked the bone and they were very worried about infection.  He had to stay in the hospital and be monitored for a few days because of it.  He turned ok.
