He is famous for his parodies, but people tend to forget how many "stylistic" parodies he did, or just plain funny originals.

Those aren't lost. I have them on CD and listen to them all the time. Early Weird Al is the best.FWIW I share a birthday with him and have seen him in concert!

I can quote most of his songs... I love busting out the Truck Driving Song amongst friends

The dude is a musical genius (and general one as well.) He's had a more successful career than many 'superstars' and I imagine he's pretty respected in the music business.

I forced my kids to watch it. They bitched and complained at first, but soon settled into it and now I catch them repeating quotes from the movie. Everyone should watch UHF at least once.

I don't know that it gets better than Christmas at Ground Zero and Dare to be Stupid.

(And Slime Creatures from Outer Space, and.....)

Put down that chainsaw and listen to me, it's time for us to join in the fight
It's time to let your children grow up to be cowboys, it's time to let the bedbugs bite......

Considering his primary focus for the last decade or so has been directing/producing music videos for other artists, definitely well respected

The first one that popped into my head.

Ah, the good ol' days of listening to Dr. Demento on Sunday nights on WCOZ with my head up against the clock radio so Dad and stepmom couldn't hear that I was still up, and trying to not laugh my ass off.  I Love Rocky Road, My Bologna, Buckingham Blues, Another One Rides The Bus, Gotta Boogie, they were all good.

A friend refuses to listen him, since the time she was trapped in a car with a teenager and the Albuquerque album for an 11 hour trip.

Yes, it's possible to overdose on Al.

But I'm no where near that stage, yet!

Laugh's on Coolio, Al is infiantly more talented and I'll wager richer. No question he's smarter. Even better, Amish Paridise is one of Wierd Al's better jobs.
