Wife has an iPhone 5 bought in late 2012 and the thing can't hold a charge for more than 5-6 hours if that. When it gets to 40% or so it drops rapidly.
Called VZW and went through troubleshooting and a factory reset. Still doing it and it is worse. Called back today because the nice young lady said they would replace the phone if it was still happening. Now they are saying the lady yesterday was wrong and I can't get a replacement. They are trying to push me into upgrading as a fix. We both have unlimited data on our lines and are only paying $10 for it so regardless the upgrade route isn't going to happen. We have the insurance but was told that unless it was physically damaged that the insurance wouldn't take the claim. I hate that damn phone... how the hell does a non-removable battery seem like a good idea?? |

I just acquired a "refurbished" iPhone4S from Verizon because it's the only company that has reliable service where I work. Battery life is great-say, a day and half before needing a charge.
Then last week, I was on one the ranges at night, and the damn thing's power dropped like a lead balloon all of a sudden. Power lasted about six hours, and that was it. One of my coworkers had a car charger, so she saved the day, but it was really disappointing. Hasn't done that since that night. I purchased a 10 watt car charger myself, but something about my location must have drained the battery. Weird. Maybe it was the close proximity to all the comm gear that was active. I'd call and politely ask to speak to a supervisor, using your charm and eloquence, and keep calling until you get the answer you want. |

Need pics of wife to better determine what if any recourse is available. Apple Store or case with extended battery, or replace phone.
My take is this: Non-replaceable batteries = (1) Unless drained, phone is never truly off. (2) User unfriendly; replacement of entire phone more profitable to Carrier and Manufacturer. |

I'm on my second Iphone 5 due to battery issues.
1st one purchased October 2012 and battery went to crap November 2013 out of the one year warranty. The Iphone 5 is rated fairly high on the repairability scale at ifixit.com. Basically just follow their instructions to get the battery out. For $35 or so they will ship you the kit to do it. WTF, after replacing battery on phone my display would not come on. I thought it was one of the tiny cables didn't get seated right. Still couldn't get it to work, so I took it to the Apple store. Now I'm looking at battery replacement and screen replacement. Ended up buying a new phone for $300. 2nd Iphone 5 battery started showing signs of not working properly. Performing a reset and locking down all apps that use background data helped, but it still barely makes it though a day. I was able to upgrade last week and went with the Samsung Galaxy S5. It has a user replaceable battery and is waterproof to boot. I'm not interested in the Iphone 6 anymore. If I end up not liking Android I'll go back to Apple, but so far the transition isn't bad. Condensed Version Iphone 5 battery sucks ass. Confirmed with 2 Iphones. Replaced Iphone with Samsung Glaxy S5 |

It takes all of $5 and 5 minutes to replace the battery on an iPhone.
Go on Amazon and get one. They usually come with the tool to remove the back cover. Find a tutorial on YouTube on how to perform the battery replacement. Done. I'm not the biggest Apple fan in the world by any means, but it blows my mind how some people think the damn phone has to be replaced because of the battery. |

You should have been looking at a prepaid company with phone you buy on your own, not one of the major companies. |

Quoted: Link? Doesn't the defeat the purpose of having an app if it is turned off? Quoted: Quoted: Are you sure it's the battery? I feel like a goof but I just learned how to turn off all my apps on my phone and it makes a big difference. Link? Doesn't the defeat the purpose of having an app if it is turned off? Some apps hang around and continuously refresh, eating up data and battery life. |
