Well I'm at war......with chipmunks.

We noticed one of the stupid animals running around near our house, thinking he was cute and having no CLUE how big of a PITB these things are....we just enjoyed watching him.  Next thing we know, there's a six inch hole in the ground near the back of our house and those suckers are apparently everywhere, having built a den.  Now there is an area of dirt under my sunroom that is collapsing in (maybe a 1 foot square area).

So the war is on.

I have the zapper trap, metal capture trap and the coup de gras....the water boarding.

I caught my first one yesterday but the mrs unit didn't have the heart to watch him drown and attempted to put him in a bucket to take him somewhere...he got away.  We had a discussion RE: look the other way and do not look in the water death trap.   Today I came home from a long day of shooting and found one trapped in the capture trap so I had to drive him a couple miles away and dump him out.

Anyone know how to completely get rid of these and how many typically colonize?

Get a 5 gallon bucket.

Fill it with about 8 inches of water

Pour a bunch of sunflower seeds  to cover the surface of the water.

Put a stick across the bucket top and a way for the chippies to get onto the stick.

They jump down to get the seeds and drown.

Get rid of them? Hell, give them to me.

I feed them, and I'm growing my own colony in the back yard.

As far as cats go.... those fuckers can all burn in hell.

Setup a bird feeder with sunflower seeds in it within range of a pellet gun or your favorite 22.

I noticed the little bastards were going into the siding corner channel and into the house somewhere...

I have been trapping them, I think I've got seven so far.

I can rustle up a recipe for them if anyone's interested.

Yep, that's the waterboarding trap that the wife let him out of......  is that grounds for divorce?

Chipmunk slayers

These and some peanut butter are your friends.  I have cleaned up 7 chipmunks and 3 mice with these in my garden.  Only once did I have to finish one off and that is because it managed to get its hind leg in it.

It'd take a shitload of those little bastards to make a meal.

Can't city limits and all that......

The other issue is that there must be a ton of these suckers and I may see one a day.  Not sure when they are active.

Judging by the damage, they must really have a lot of suckers in there, it's a giant hole.

Or you could serve them hors d’œuvre.

I have neighbors on both sides with cats that kill birds left and right but have had no apparent impact on the population.

We don't have anything that seems to be a clear draw to them, not sure why they have exploded in population suddenly.

I guess I'll catch a few and then fill in their hole to see if they re-open it.

Stupid animals.

If you have a fenced in yard terriers "love" small animals like chipmunks.

Yard isn't fenced but we have a Boston and he LOVES to chase them.  They don't seem to care.

I figure that if he ever caught one, he'd end up getting sodomized by it.....he's not much of a fighter!

I have trapped better than 2 dozen of those bastards this summer. Bait with only sunflower seeds in the shell, and don't leave the trap out in the open. I lean a piece of plywood against the house and put the trap under there...

Damn things dug out under my concrete patio, but I think I've finally eliminated them...

OP, you're looking at it in the wrong light. See the squirrels as an opportunity for adventure and entertainment.

Fixt.

They come, I shoot--sometimes a 410, sometimes pellet gun.  It's just something that you have to keep up on.  In my case they come to scavenge under the bird feeder.
