Looking at a couple acres out in the country, ATT says no to dsl or uverse.  Cable company says it is not in the area.  How fast is 4g LTE?  Is there anyone that offers unlimited.  I'm used to downloading 100 GB a month, and streaming everything    Any other options?

Excede/Wildblue is usually better than Hughesnet.

If you can get a good solid LTE signal, I would go that route. Download will be faster, upload (I think) is about the same.

Sattelite, Cellular, or T1 type services.

Forget about 100's of GB's of usage per month with any of these.  T1 it's doable, but it's not going to be your budget.

Where are you OP?
I am in SW Ok and living pretty rural.  We don't even have land line phone service.
I tried Wildblue for awhile and it worked but I got rid of it when another option came up.
A local company offers wireless internet.  I don't know how it works, I have a small square antennae on my house which runs into the house to my modem.
It averages between 1.5 mbps on the low end and 3-4 mbps on the high end.

Do whatever you can to find a WISP. I have Skybeam, and while their reviews online are god awful, I've been thrilled with their service. Suicide.

Seriously. Excede from WildBlue is your best bet for speed satellite wise.
You are still limited to 15 Gig a month though.

4g LTE is much faster than satellite, but I don't know pricing when you get to 15-20 Gig a month plans.

We have been using the verizon jet pack. It works great but the usage limits is hard on us.  I just found out last week that I can get fiber to my house for free as long as I am under 4000 feet from the closest ped.  They have been out here the last two days burying fiber cable.  My understanding is uncle sugar paid to have fiber run across the lovely state of montana for all rural folks to be able to hook to.  Something to do with rural people being able to have service just the same as fsa being able to have a cell phone for job inquiries.

Viasat Exede from Wildblue.  Unlimited download between Midnight and 5:00am.  You just have to stay up late to stream movies.

I don't go over 10GB a month except for the unlimited downloads during the free time.  $60.00 or so a month.

I had cable for 10 years until moving out to the middle of nowhere.  The is no DSL or cable within 5 miles of my house.  There might be a wireless service but it allows less data than what I currently have.

Kind of hard for anyone to actually give you options when you don't post your location.

Can you find a business internet supplier in your area?  Wife's employers just had fiber run to their facility to provide increased demand due to a data center expansion.  It cost a lot less than I would have thought they would be charged for it.  Now they've got a 250Mbps connection in place of the 25Mbps connection they had through the cable company's "business package" they previously were using.

I'm using a 3G Verizon Wireless card. I have a router that will let you hook up the card to it and service your home, just like a DSL router.

I had Dialup and satellite while growing up, things may be different now but by far your best bet will be to use a cell phone internet connection.

Cradlepoint mbr1000. Luckily my plan and this card dates way back to 2008, I can still get unlimited data. Let's hope it doesn't crap out anytime soon. It's been very good to me.

This ^^^^.

Same here.  I use Millenicom.  They sell bulk Verizon 4G/LTE of 20GB for $90 per month.

My speeds are usually 10+ Mbps down and 10+ Mbps up and pings in the 50 ms range.  That's on a connection that fluctuates between 2-3 bars on the hotspot.

Route your traffic through a router running DD-WRT so you can monitor your daily and monthly usage.  Several times I've had enough data left on the last weekend of the month to stream an HD movie or two (Amazon or Xbox Movies), without issue.

For sure, your days of 100+ gigs per month of surfing will be long over.

That's what we have. You won't notice any difference between it and a land line connection. I have no complaints with the company we use. There have only been maybe 2-3 times the internet went down for a couple of hours, but they will give you a call to let you know it will be down or if they are having issues.

Ours is basically a satellite dish looking thing that points at the tower on the mountain, but a co worker just has one in his attic that picks up the signal. So, you need to be within direct sight of the signal or be within the signal range.

Our house is actually connected to a repeater located at a relative's house, so if you don't quite have signal where you are they can extend it at your property as long as someone can get a signal.

I have no good options here in BFE except my T-mobile phone. Unlimited data, but it takes some creativity. The phone had a custom ROM and creating a hotspot is easy, but I mainly browse the net on the phone vs the laptop. You get used to it. I also use the Miracast function to mirror my screen to the tv, so Netflix and HBO GO are good to go. It's not perfect, but it works for me and I use a LOT of data every month.

No. In the suburbs I enjoyed unlimited use DSL or cable broadband at super fast speeds. In the country where we have lived the past year there is only two choices: satellite internet or using your cell phone as a mobile hot spot. Both basically suck.

Satellite:
Pros:
  • slightly faster than dial-up (and by slightly I mean just that - don't expect it to be anywhere even remotely close to DSL or other broadband connections)

Cons:
  • Expensive - around $70+/mo + costly set-up fees (usually you can lease the equipment for an additional $10/mo fee, or buy the equipment (dish + modem) for $200-$400).

  • Slow - Don't bother trying to stream anything (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) in real-time. And if you enjoy playing on-line video games might as well just quit now because they are impossible to play over satellite (not so much due to the slow speed but how the data packets are bundled/transmitted to/from the satellite)

  • Limited monthly bandwidth - this is the real suck for satellite broadband, they limit you to typically 10GB/mo (more bandwidth will cost you more lots more $$). Oh sure they will tell you that you get $20 GB/mo, but read the fine print and you discover that you only get 10GB/mo during "prime" time hours (typically between 7 am and 2 am), and the other 10 GB/mo is only during non-prime hours. And just to give you an idea how fast you will burn through 10GB, that is about one to two hours of YouTube video watching.
Can't stream TV Video on Demand (VOD) - If your TV provider is like DirecTV or Dish, they probably offer VOD (movies, porn, TV shows, etc.). VOD actually streams via your home internet, not the TV satellite/cable. You can't do this with satellite because one movie can be half your monthly data allotment, and it takes forever to download the media.

  • Connectivity Issues - If a thunderstorm rolls in, you more than likely will lose your satellite internet connection until the storm passes

Cell phone WiFi
Pros:
  • If you can get 4G LTE, its can be as fast as DSL (or faster the better your connection). If you only get 3G, then don't even bother.

Cons:
  • Expensive - Cell phone data plans are very expensive. Usually it's an additional $10/mo for 2 GB increments. If you are accustomed to consuming 100GB/mo (assuming that is your total monthly data usage) you could expect to pay as much as a nice car payment for that much data use (current Verizon data pricing is $375/mo for 50 GB/mo of data).

  • Connectivity Issues - If a thunderstorm rolls in, you may lose your connection until the storm passes (though I've noticed my cell's WiFi signal seems more stable than the satellite internet)

If consuming a lot of data is important to you (Netflix, VOD, on-line gaming, etc.), and your only choices if you elect to move to a rural area are satellite broadband or your cell's WiFi, you will be seriously disappointed. My son got a game called Skyrim as a gift that he wanted to download, it was something like 12GB. I had to get up at 2 am to start downloading it, then back up at 7 am to stop it, so we wouldn't waste our prime time satellite data allotment (and no, data download scheduler programs don't work - trust me I tried). Due to how slow satellite internet is it took me 3-4 days of doing this to fully download it, and still had to use 2 GB of our monthly 10 GB primetime data to finish the download.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Most people are unaware of how much data they consume. 100 GB/mo would be low-end usage it you stream some Netflix/Hulu/Amazon, watch some VOD via your TV provider (which uses your home internet). I was watching these 10 minute home improvement videos on YouTube and after watching 6 of them it used almost 10 GB. And those weren't even HD. If all you do is e-mail and surf Arfcom, sure you might only use a few GB/month. But once you start streaming video, downloading software (just a video game can easily be 5-15GB now) you rapidly approach the 100 GB/mo usage level.
