I saw them in concert in New Orleans around 1980.
Ray Davies was shot on Esplanade Ave in New Orleans a few years back. He and his woman friend were leaving Port Of Call resturant and a purse snatcher grabbed the lady's purse. He ran after the guy and the shithead pulled a gun and shot him. Nothing life threatening but it can't be fun. At least he isn't a pussy. I really like their music. |

I'll be a son of a gun, only version of this song I have ever heard was by The Jam from an album in the late 70's. Wow. |

Kinks rock! 'Cause he gets up in the morning and he goes to work at nine And he comes back home at five-thirty, gets the same train every time 'Cause his world is built 'round punctuality, it never fails And he's oh, so good, and he's oh, so fine And he's oh, so healthy in his body and his mind He's a well respected man about town Doing the best things so conservatively And his mother goes to meetings while his father pulls the maid And she stirs the tea with councilors while discussing foreign trade And she passes looks, as well as bills at every suave young man And he's oh, so good, and he's oh, so fine And he's oh, so healthy in his body and his mind He's a well respected man about town Doing the best things so conservatively And he likes his own backyard and he likes his fags the best 'Cause he's better than the rest and his own sweat smells the best And he hopes to grab his father's loot, when pater passes on 'Cause he's oh, so good, and he's oh, so fine And he's oh, so healthy in his body and his mind He's a well respected man about town Doing the best things so conservatively And he plays at stocks and shares, and he goes to the Regatta He adores the girl next door 'cause he's dying to get at her But his mother knows the best about the matrimonial stakes 'Cause he's oh, so good, and he's oh, so fine And he's oh, so healthy in his body and his mind He's a well respected man about town Doing the best things so conservatively |
| Original British Invasion-era Kinks were an amazing band, Dave always had a shit-eating grin on his face as they played. Late 70's and eighties Kinks just seemed worn-out and tired to me. Saw an early eighties British Punk/New Wave documentary on Hulu. Bands like The Specials, The Jam, Madness, Chelsea, Boomtown Rats, etc. Then they cut to Ray Davies talking about how all these 'new bands' inherited it all from him. Then a half-hour of The Pretenders playing live, apparently because Ray thought they were 'The Best New Band'. Oh, and he was banging Chrissie Hynde. |

I always thought that if they had been prettier, they would have eclipsed the Be-attles. Well, maybe not but would have been much more successful. Fugly fuckers. Don't get me wrong. Love The Kinks |

Great band. My favorite Kinks song. I remember when this was in regular rotation on MTV. I saw them live in 1989 at the Mann Music Center in Philly on their 25th anniversary tour. Honestly, it wasn't a good show. Ray kept leaving the stage then returning wearing a different jacket. I kinda wonder if he was snorting something during his offstage breaks.
