One, maybe two more days of this shit. But...I just got the essentials covered. Time Warner just left like 10 minutes ago.

I'm going to miss having U-Verse, but TW doesn't seem so bad, thus far.

I can't believe how much shit I own, and a lot of it (garage, mostly) is large and heavy. I'll say it again, fuck I hate moving.

As someone who spent 20 years moving around, let me give you a helpful hint.

If you haven't touched something in a year, you don't need it.

(excluding some seasonal clothing or mementos)

As you unpack, keep the trashcan nearby.  You'll thank me at your next move.

I can relate.

Getting the house ready to put on the market.

15 yard dumpster filled.

Many many trips to the dump.

Many trips to Goodwill.

15x10 storage unit filled.

Walls touched up, deck stained, patio sealed, fresh mulch, decluttered the whole house.

It's doing to feel like living in a museum until the house sells (and I hope it doesn't sell too quickly as out new house wont be ready until Oct/Nov).

Since I built my house I've acquired a full machine shop, Bridgeport, 17" Southbend lathe and Reid surface grinder with tons of tooling.  I do not plan on moving...ever.  Thank God my vocation only requires that I be able hop on a plane.

I hear you brother. I hope I never have to move again in my lifetime because I've accumulated too much stuff.  TWC is pretty good in my area and are generally quick and responsive. I had DirecTV and AT&T before them but that was originally all that was available to me (kinda out in the country) but Time Warner said they'd bring me a line if I'd sign a 3 year contract, which I did and that was about 10 years ago and I've been quite happy with them ...YMMV of course.

Moved a woodworking shop (cabinet saw, bandsaw, lath, drill press, mortiser, router tables, planer, jointer, etc.) and a machine shop (mill, lath, etc.) with multiple large cabinets of tooling.
Still cannot find some things but they are here.
furniture took half a 40 ft truck.
Tools took the rest and another 40 ft truck.
The second one was scary overweight.
Table saw 500 pounds, metal lath 1,500 pounds, mill 2,000 pounds, planer 400 pounds, jointer 600 pounds.
Moving vans are not rated for that much weight. Furniture is more of a volume load than a weight load.

When my wife and I moved out of our last apartment, we took a "slash & burn" attitude towards our stuff. I was astounded at the sheer volume of shit we threw away.
(None of which, I might add, have we missed in the slightest in the past 18 months.)

I had 30 days to find a new house and move. I was a bit pressed for time.

But yeah, we're doing to be doing some serious culling. I have a lot of stuff in storage, and I bet at least half of it is never going to see the inside of my house again.

Oh man, 30 days is tight (especially considering you also have to make moving arrangements and don't have the whole time to sell).

Well, even if you can't sell everything you would have liked to in advance, it ought to be good motivation to sell it when you can.  It's so awesome to sell shit you don't need...I love craigslist.

You think moving across the state sucks?  Try moving to a new continent, the third in 6 years.  . The packers just left yesterday with 11K pounds of my crap, and now I'm living out of a suitcase in my own house. . I'm spending the fourth cleaning my house.

I've been moving courtesy of Uncle Sam for the last 22 years.  Moving is a good way to keep the house clean.  Never stay long enough to get it really dirty.

You have no idea now much I wish I could do my own. I'd make about $5-6K doing it .  You're right though it's a whole hell of a lot less work having movers do it.  The complications for me that are new to this move, my tenth in 20 years, are now we have pets, and international quarantine rules are ridiculous.  That, and my dependents passports have to be sorted out.  It was a lot easier when I was single.

I have an insurance rider for all the tools.

Priced 36 inch restored and upgraded band-saws?
This one has all ball bearings in place of the original Babbitt.
I still have the oversize reamers used to open up the casting.
Many years ago they cost more than a high end 14 inch band-saw each.
I already had a metal lath so making up the alignment tooling was not that hard.
I actually rotated my mill head to 90 degrees and used it to face off one side of each wheel shaft location.
It took 3 months to lay the thing on its 'back' and hold it in position (welded up steel frame) so I could get both wheel bosses in the frame faced parallel.
There is  nice decorative box in my living room that covers the top few inches of the bandsaw upper wheel.
One joist had to be headered off for clearance.

It runs like a a dream now.
No brakes on these things (mine did not even have covered wheels originally)..
When you kill power it takes minutes to spin to a stop.

Yep....still have boxes sealed/marked from 2008.   Still have not unpacked from my recent move from this March.  Dig through boxes every now and then but they just stay stacked up with some contents over the floor of which I try to step over.

I was big into surfcasting for over 20 years but my injury put an end to that. Made some nice coin though selling some of my gear. Gave tons away too and I'm donating some to a youth fishing club.

We had five cars and two motorcycles. Sold one car, gave one away, shipped two to the mainland, shipped one bike to japan, selling one bike and shipping one car to storage. My two car carport is so empty I barely recognize the place,

FYI, Time Warner will let you supply your own modem now. Compatible options are limited, but it will save you from having to rent their equipment if you are going to be using them for a while.

I've lived six years in the same apartment. Last time I moved was the first time I paid for movers (before it was friends helping). OMG, was it worth it. I had so little stuff it only took up about 1/4 of a big moving truck. Before that, the worst thing about moving was all the boxes of books. I've since decluttered most of my books and have a Kindle. The next time I move the ammo stash will be the heaviest thing. Friends appreciate you being a minimalist when they help you move.

Sub, that's a nice looking house you've got yourself there.
