For Post #1861, I present to you my Armi-Sport P1853 Enfield .577(Defarbed, Reproduction 3 band).  The defarbing was done by me with the assistance of a friend.  It has an original lock plate dated 1861/Tower and Victoria Regina stamp, original lockwork, barrel bands, trigger guard and buttplate.  This is the heavy barrel model with 3 groove rifling.  It's been a good shooter for the few months I've had it.  Pictured with some of my Federal issue accouterments and issue clothing.  The dog tag reads: US Coffman 8th Indiana Infantry Co. E(one of my wife's ancestors).

Mine are Parker Hale repros, the ones too late for the war. They are good shooters.

Looks good. Mine is also an ArmiSport. I've been thinking about sending it to Blockade Runner for defarbing.

And I'm going to a Civil War reenactment this Saturday!

Save your money,  it really wasn't that hard, do it yourself.  What's your unit and where's the fight?

I don't know, I'd probably screw it up. And Blockade Runner has all the correct stamps for many variants. But I don't have the money right now anyway, it's just a 'maybe' thing.

I'm not a reenactor, just a spectator. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive north of me.

Well, I'll say this:  Blockade Runner is good people.  I've got lots of their stuff but I've never seen any of their gun work in person.  Dixie Gun Works had a tent set up on the Sutler Row at Brices Crossroads a few weeks ago and had some nice stuff.

This thread reminds me that I really need to get a Snider (which are mostly conversions of P'53s).

I'm planning to pick up a '64 Snider Conversion (2 Band Carbine w/sword bayonet) before the year is up.  I've got the muzzle loader, might as well have the breach loader too.

I really want to buy an Enfield 1853 to use as a hunting rifle.

Are they as accurate as legend suggests?

Yes they are but you have to use good powder and properly sized minies.

If you're really a gun person, why fuck around shooting blanks? There are units of the North-South Skirmish Assn. in all of the lower 48 states. They'll teach you how to shoot REAL BULLETS in your Enfield, and do it accurately. If you've never been to a skirmish, send me a PM and I'll try to hook you up with an N-SSA team near you.

Remember, "Real men don't shoot blanks."

Don't make the mistake of thinking I got this rifle just to burn power in front of a crowd.  I do live fire this rifle and get palm sized groups at 100 yards.  I've been wanting to go to a skirmish but there's not one within reasonable driving distance that I can get to with my work schedule.
