It can be, but I've had a different experience. As a dude who in the last year has gone into business for himself (machine shop), FB has helped keep me in touch with old friends from school/etc who now work at companies that need stuff machined. I've worked my way in to being a supplier for several different places just from networking on FB, or from posting pictures of silly shit I make when it's slow that people see and say "oh yah, you've got a machine, think you could make X or Y for me?" People who post pictures of every meal they eat, or 100 pictures per day of what their stupid children are doing get ignored. Same policy with ex's just trying to get back in touch.

While I don't have a facebook, and often am the "Facebook is the devil" kinda guy (kind of a joke in our circle of friends), I do see the merit in it, and figure I don't have to use it like a teenage girl would. With that being said, I guess I just figure I've done ok without one and don't have any issue keeping in touch with people. It does amaze me how much info people put on there. Hell, I spend a decent amount of time and effort making sure people don't know all my business. |

Your mileage may vary, but from what I've seen, your Facebook experience pretty much reflects your real life. If your life, family, and acquaintances are shit, then FB probably isn't going to be a lot of fun for you. nailed it.....I have a large extended family spread out all over the country..that oddly enough...I like.....facebook helps me stay in touch and keep informed of family get togethers. |

It's what you make of it.
I wasn't going to call EVERY one of my family and friends while thousands of miles every couple of weeks to "chit chat" for an hour or so. On the flip side, I'm not going to call lots of guys I served with every couple of weeks just to "chit chat". |

I keep a few old teachers and neighbors on there who are flaming libtards just to mess around with them. It's sort of a pastime.
I also am quick with the delete button (have done this with family) because they take political discussions too far (not necessarily with me). I 'aint got no time fo dat. |
