Best thing to do OP is go try a few brands at stores.  Then come home and check Amazon and other web sites for reviews.

My best advice, don't go to a big box store and buy a $800 to $1500 treadmill. Instead surf Craiglist. A ton of people buy high end gym quality (or high end consumer) treadmills and barely use them, then sell it. They they get sold for next to nothing. I picked up a 2007 True treadmill a few years ago. Had almost no use. Originally sold for $2700. I paid $400.
