Didn't find anything in search about this not
Has anyone used one of the Predator brand generators from Harbor Freight? I need a Quieter one for the trailer while vending and one of those ultra spiffy Hondas is out of my range. I need at least 5000 watts to run everything, and I need 220.
I was looking at one of the HF ones today, claims to be only 75 db. and has a 30 amp 220 plug. the motor and generator look like direct Honda clones.
Anyone have any experience with these? Noise? reliability? Fuel usage? HF return policy's?

I know a guy that has one and he said it is good. The key is slowly breaking in the motor.

I have a predator engine.  It is a Honda gx clone.  I wouldn't call it quit tough.  Normal engine noise for a 6.5hp engine.

The survival forums have several generator discussions.

5k watts and 30A from the same unit seems suspect.

My 5K Yamaha is 5K and only 20A.

"Only" 75 dB?

They don't get much louder than that...

My Champion is a lot quieter than that, but IIRC the current models no longer offer 240v.

Like I said I need quieter, 75 db. is a BIG step from my current generator. Its a Coleman with a 10 hp. single cylinder Tecumseh, and its farqin LOUD! you cant be within 30 ft of that thing and carry on a conversation! Its gotta be near 110 db. If I didn't need 220 life would be simple but what do ya do?

Cool chart. I'll have to see where my Honda EM7000is and CAT XQ80 would sit.

Menards has this Powermate 5000 watt generator for $400 after rebate right now, and it has 220.  Having trouble finding noise ratings on it, though.

Are you absolutely certain you need 5+ KW?

Once you get beyond the 3-4KW range, prices and noise levels both start going up drastically.

220volts*30amps= 6600 watts.
Generator says it handles 6500 peak,5500 running.

That 30amp 220 outlet is kinda pushing it.
