So I'm starting a podcast. First one is about Gun Minimalism, which I talked about here a while ago. Listen and complain. I'm sure that I say things you all disagree with.

I don't buy guns because I need them, I buy them because I derive satisfaction from owning and shooting them. They spend about 90% of their lives in the safe(s), and I'm OK with that.
If I was buying guns for practical defensive use only, I would only need 3... or 5 or... lol. Hell, if I was buying guns for range use only, I wouldn't even need 10. Bottom line is, it's a hobby, and lots of people go overboard. Most of the people who do can afford to do so, and have a blast doing it. I know I do. |

I think a lot of it is lost on people who are more collection oriented such as myself. Do you think there are a lot of ARFCOMers who feel the need to buy guns that they don't actually need? |

I do that. My last two buys have been a S&W Model 10 and a 7.65x53 Argentine mauser. Don't "need" either of them, but wanted them for personal reasons. Hell, the one before those was a SAA repro that I only bought because it makes me smile. |

I know that I was. I used to be addicted to buying guns. This episode is like alcoholics anonymous for people like me. |
| What about buying guns while you still can? I think a lot of people spend money on guns and ammo now, and figure that the availability of guns and ammo in the long term is going to be legally restricted or scarce due to market uncertainty. If you think that further gun restrictions are inevitable, wouldn't buying more guns (particularly those of the type you believe may be restricted) be a better investment? |

Well I think you have the right episode length here. Not too long but perfect for multitasking or driving to.
As for this episodes content it works for me but I would change the order of what to buy. Pistol, AR, 10/22, then the shotgun. IMHO Sometimes I wounder what I would do if all my guns disappeared and I had to start from scratch for the necessities. The choice in medium is a bit of a concern because of the competition with the youtube folk but if you are looking at the talk radio and multitasker market, like I said above, then you are all set. It will be hard to explain how to put a detent spring in place with just audio. So if you do more news and opinion pieces you will do quite well. Keep it up! I would love to sit in LA traffic with gun news on podcast. On second thought It might make me go mad in my state

We'll see how it goes. |

I disagree with you, but I think the podcast is well laid out. Not so long that it feels like a hassle to listen to, but not so short that it's not worth it.
The one thing most podcasts tend to do is have rambling filler because they feel they need to hit a certain length. As long as your topic is covered, end it. Don't feel you need to hit 30 mins to be credible. |

I'm of the opinion that if you are not pissing someone off you aren't doing it right. I hope my borderline Canadian accent didn't annoy you too much. |

I like it, although think slightly differently (2 is 1, 1 is none in a couple categories):
2 - AR15 2 - full sized pistols 2 - compact pistols 2 - ruger 10/22 2 - Remington 870 1 - .308 or similar 1 - .300 wsm or similar Why two? Ar15 and pistols are most succeptible to "legislation" and things do blow up or wear out from time to time. Full sized pistols are fun to shoot, compact better to carry. If you don't have two shotguns, you at least need a couple of barrels, but given the cost easier to just buy two. With the two rifles you can hunt all game in N. America, although you may need a scope for one of the ar15s for prairie dogs, etc. |

I'm more of a "caliber minimalist". I reload for competition, but I only reload 9, .45, .223, .308, 300 blk. 1 20" AR for longer ranges 2 16" AR's 1 SBR awaiting suppressor stamp approval 1 FAL 1 Mossy 930 1 Rem 870 2 1911's 3 M&P (shield, 5" pro, compact) 1 Sig P226 (West German, will pass down to son, don't shoot much) 1 Taurus wheel gun (everyone should have at least 1 revolver. eta: Good podcast. |

I'd agree to get your practical guns first. Then get your ammo, training, and body armor. Then get your range toys. Sounds like your stance is 100% practicality, kinda sucking the fun out of it really. I like shooting, and I like shooting different guns, and shooting with friends and family. It isn't all about preparing for the Apocalypse. |
