The Running Man thread made me think of this story. Same Richard Bachman collection that The Running Man was in.
I've never understood why The Long Walk hasn't been made into a movie. A very chilling story that seems even more relevant these days. It can't be that teenagers are being killed, The Hunger Games has been pretty successful with that. |

There really isn't an ending. He just keeps walking. But he won. Everything. What, besides a mind full of horrors? Technically, he didn't win squat, because it was never written out. Exactly. Everything. I've just always thought it would make a good movie. Would be cheap to make too. |

"The Long Walk" and "The Running Man" were both very prophetic regarding our current trend towards Reality TV shows and competitions. How much longer until we really do have "The Long Walk" or "The Hunger Games" to help entertain the masses? Bread and circuses...
"Roadwork" is another great story, but not very politically correct. It almost reads like something that should have been in "The Ballad of Carl Drega". |
| I was going to say "Walking as the main action isn't going to put a lot of butts in seats", but you are right, it could be done fairly cheaply. Small-mid budget, same on the marketing campaign, and it would likely make a profit if it was good enough to get good word-of-mouth. |

That's how I read it as well. Winner? There's no winner, ever. But they created the Myth of a Winner. For ratings. |

It prolly would make a good movie. Too bad they fucked up The Fog... Ohhh, and ....... You didn't enjoy The Mist? I thought it was very faithful to the novella. Except for the ending. Yeah, I hated the ending of the movie. |

" That's why you can't get that book anymore,, very deep shit in that book,, I think King is a gungrabbing faggot, but he has wrote some really dark twisted shit,, he actually had to put himself there to picture that shit,, |

I have my copy somewhere in a box. |

"The Long Walk" was the first King book I read. All those shorts from the Bachman books were great. As usual the book was 100X better than that Arnold Swarzenegger reject movie.
My only problem with "TLW" was the ending was extremely anti climactic, and sort of a let down. I expected the trumpets of god, or at least balloons and confetti? That latest book "Dr Smoke" or whatever it was called, was the same way. Effing great read, but just kind of came to a fizzling stop. "The Talisman, and "The Gunslinger" series are still my favs though. |

The Talisman turned me on to Peter Straub, who is my favorite author. I'll never, ever understand why The Talsiman hasn't been made into a miniseries. Quoted:

And again, could be made into a movie or mini- series on a low budget and still tell the story. |
