I have a Mac because I am basically computer illiterate, got fed up trying to keep a PC functioning.
I have a very frustrating bit of malware that redirects me to a bogus flash player update every time I try to use Google, Bing, or YouTube. The Apple site doesn't seem to offer any good info, so I am appealing to Arfcom's collective knowledge base. How do I get this crap off of my computer? All my OS X Mavericks updates are current, and I don't see an iVirus program to run. Any help greatly appreciated. |

Try the above 1st. The only way to get a "virus" on a mac is to accept an install of something. If you didn't go looking for something that pops up NEVER install it. Flash and Java may be the exception but even then I'll sometimes manually update Do you have the issue in any other browsers? Chrome? FireFox? |

After you wipe Safari as recommended above and erase all cookies, you should be fine.
Then, click on System Preferences, then Security & Privacy. Go to the General tab at the top. Click on the lock at the bottom; you will need to enter your password. Then hit the radio button for Allow apps downloaded from: Mac App Store. This will help make sure you don't inadvertently download executable files (not that what you have is one). Good luck. |

I've reset Safari with all the boxes checked (Safari is the browser I use) and it still comes up. If you tell me how to take a screenshot and post it, I'll try, but like I said, I'm not a computer whiz. Did you go to Safari Preferences, Privacy tab, hit Remove All Website Data, and Block cookies and other website data from third parties and advertisers? |

his ISP's DNS server has been hacked or his router dns setting has been changed. either we resolved it by bypassing the router's dns and using googles.
