[ARCHIVED THREAD] - How not to do pull-ups (Page 1 of 5)
| I completely understand using mechanical advantage in some movements, but those pullups are dangerous. I saw two guys on two different occasions fuck up their shoulder doing that at the gym I went to on Fort Hood (the crossfit section was next to the weight section). At the same time, they're doing olympic lifts with terrible form and deadlifting with their back rounded. |

YMMV, but I've seen more progess doing 6 months of CrossFit than I did 2 for years at the gym. Quoted:

That was painful to watch. YMMV, but I've seen more progess doing 6 months of CrossFit than I did 2 for years at the gym. Then you were doing it wrong. |

That was painful to watch. YMMV, but I've seen more progess doing 6 months of CrossFit than I did 2 for years at the gym. Congrats. The team enviroment and coaching often has that effect. Eventually the weighs are to light for a man and you'll have to add your own strength training back in to continue strength gains. You can only do so much with high reps and light weights. At some point 95, 135 and 185 just doesnt result in strength gains anymore. |

Maybe so, but that's why CrossFit works for me - having someone program workouts for me. My Crossfit gym is small (maybe 5-6 people per class) so its almost like having a personal trainer. My regular class also has 2 former USMC infantry and 1 former USMC Force Recon guy I work out with so it can't be all that bad

Those definitely weren't "One for the Corps! One for the Commandant!" pullups.
The min for males at USAFA was 7. The max was 21. Then broad jump. Push ups (evaluator would put his fist on the floor. Your chest had to hit his fist) Sit ups (Rocky style) A sit down and stretch with your fingertips to touch your toes with legs extended. 600 yard fuckin' sprint Then a 1.5 mile run later. |

That was painful to watch. YMMV, but I've seen more progess doing 6 months of CrossFit than I did 2 for years at the gym. I am glad to hear that, some of us are more prone to injury than others. Even when I was in peak physical shape. |

Not light stuff either |

I've been trying to train my wife to be able to do a pullup. I'll show her this and tell her that she has done as many as the douche in the video can. Start with negatives if she can't do one rep yet. My wife started with one of those assisted pull up machines and is now up to 6/4/4/4 dead hangs twice a week. |

Its funny because its true. "Like riding the bus. You are all going the same place and you are not driving." |

That genuinely looks like it might not be great for your joints. I would think shoulder damage would be far more likely with those weird floppy fish spams than with a traditional up-and-down pull-up. I tore my rotator cuff just watching it. ![]() I was using the gym at the main office two weeks ago. Pretty girl with awesome cut legs gets off the treadmill and walks by while I am Deading. She says: "That is an awful lot of weight(It wasn't, it was just just 245)! I need to do exercises like that but I hurt my shoulder doing pull-ups two years ago and it never has healed right." I said: "Let me guess: Crossfit and Kipping-Pull-Ups." Her: "HOW DID YOU KNOW!?!" |
| Crossfit actually felt so threatened by this guy's repeated commentary videos making fun of them that they had YouTube shut his channel down. He's since restarted the channel but hosts his weekly commentary videos on his own website now so Crossfit can't get all butthurt and try to sue. |
