It's amazing to me the degree of agitation people reach when arguing the correctness of their belief system. Especially pertaining to religion, politics, economics.
But also high on the list, self defense systems, cooking and nutrition, exercise for fitness, best caliber for deer hunting, and men's fashion and grooming.

Feel free to list more.

It seems the opportunity to compare things does cause a lot of tension for some people when it comes down to expressing thoughts about making value assessments.

As long as a comparison can be made, so can a fight be had.

In my experience, True Believers - the type to get easily agitated - are rarely emotionally mature people.

In general, yes.
But I know an extreme exception. Flaming liberal true believer that there is no reason to use violence for self defense, gets instantly foaming at the mouth agitated when the second amendment is mentioned.
Yet she is the most emotionally mature person I know.

It's less about emotional maturity, and more about how closely a person's identity is wrapped up in the belief. If I find my identity in Belief X (my faith is in that thing), then I will have a difficult time separating an attack on that belief from a personal attack.
