I say gambling.
Known some people that killed themselves with drugs. Known some that got clean and stayed clean. Video game and internet addiction usually goes away once you have something to do, like a job, or a commitment that limits your time like a sexual partner. Yes - GD - it is possible to rise above basement dweller status. But I've never heard of a recovered gambled addict. Same of fucking schemers that were layin bets in high school are still gambling, but with higher stakes. I don't think it's possible to recover from gambling addiction. Prosperity is only one lotto ticket or one blackjack game away for them. Or so they think

They're all bad.
But, I agree that gambling holds it's own special place. We had a guy at work lie about his father's death so he could get the token collection along with three days of paid vacation. He would clock out of work to run across the street and buy scratch off tickets. |
|
I do know a recovered gambling addict. He is a doctor and was about $500K in online gambling debt. He hasn't gamble other than with people's life's on the operating table in 15 years.
I voted drugs because I have seen some really screwed up people that will rape pillage and murder for there next fix. |

Gambling's pretty high on the list for sure. You wont overdose and die on it but you can destroy your life pretty quick with it if you have a problem. An old boss of mine who I worked gun shows for burned through $35,000 one Friday night at a Reno Hilton show. 35 grand just gone in about 10hrs... He was so broke at the end of the show on Sunday that he had to pay us in merchandise. |

I voted for the food category. Simply because one can live without consuming drugs/alchohol. Not saying it is easy, but it can be done. One can live without gambling. Again, not easy, but it can be done.
Now, food related problems are extremely difficult to overcome, simply because you have to eat some thing to survive. Eating too much/too little is easy, eating properly appears to be difficult for some. But, don't listen to me, I forgot to stop at my LLS after work, and have had to spend a dry weekend. And, just like all the other weekends, the markets are closed. BRB, I need more coffee. |

They SAY food is the worst. If you drink, you can stay out of bars. If you drug, you can avoid those people/neighborhoods. If you gamble, stay out of Vegas/etc.
But every day, ya gotta eat, and partake in your addiction.
ETA: Ooops, looks like post above me got it. |

one of my old coworkers from my high school job back in the day. wife is a principal making $200k/yr. he was a supervisor of a country club, making $75k/hr. he would consistently blow his entire fucking paycheck on scratch offs. not even joking. he'd brag like hell when he won trivial amounts like $200. i don't think it ever occurred to him that he had to spend $500 just to win that $200, so net loss = $300.
he actually did win $10,000 one time. do you think he put it in his kid's college fund? nope! blew it all on more fucking scratch offs. $10k buys a lot of scratch offs, so you're bound to win something here or here. so he didn't lose all $10k - just $9850. last i heard, he was still gambling away... if gambling paid, casino's wouldnt have enough money for marble floors and crystal statues. and everyone would be getting rich.

ETA: Ooops, looks like post above me got it. the times i have had to drop weight b/c it got out of control, i stopped eating tasty food. oatmeal and protein shake for breakfast bland chicken and broccoli for lunch bland fish or steak with dinner + a bland potato if you can manage to view food as something you need to survive and a tool you can use to lose weight, your perception of eating really changes. |

Any addiction that gets you into sucking dicks for the money to pay for it is the worst kind. There's a a certain amount of logic that demands that this is the correct response. I understand the food argument, but I've never seen anyone drop down to their knees for a Hostess cupcake. |

Today is Sunday. Turn on your TV. How long do you have to watch before you see a food commercial advertising some tasty looking very high calorie and low nutrient food? It's in your face constantly. How can you resist your food addiction if it's constantly being thrown at you?
Drug addicts can avoid people and situations that are tempting. They can just live their lives avoiding recreational drugs. The gluttonous bastards can't do that. They are surrounded by temptation all day long every day. The wife or mother cooks a huge meal, it is easy to pile the plate high and then get seconds. Do to lunch with co-workers and no matter where you go you are confronted with menu items that give you your daily healthy calories all in one meal and then you eat the same for dinner and later a snack while watching TV. The deck is stacked against fat fucks who are trying to quit. We all know why there are no longer cigarette and booze commercials on TV. But food addiction is killing people in America by the thousands every day and we still see advertisements for horrible food choices on TV all day long. |

Worst addiction to me is my gun hobby...... Hell, I've slept with a rifle in my fiance's absence.I've done this once. My wife and daughter we're away for a couple days and I needed something next to me and the dog wouldn't lay still
I voted drugs and alcohol but gambling would be #2 to me. I really think I only see it as #1 because I was around it a lot more growing up vs gambling. I'm actually dealing with my first known gambling addict right now. But she is supposed to leave on Thursday so yay! |
