Without drugs......

Is it harder as you get older? I am 44.....Had to get up at 1am EST lastnight on a Emg call {Electrical} after working my normal 8.
Worked from 2am -to  about 3 pm today.

It's 6:50 EST and I am one loopy SOB.

I used to be able to be at the "Club" all night back in my 20's and go straight to work.....Now.....Helz no.

So, age and length of time being up and functional?

42yo. Went two days once when I was much younger. It was awful. Went 30 hours once on a Marlin tournament and a couple 24 hour stints in Vegas since then. Really, really hard to bounce back from them now.

What is this sleep you speak of?

Years ago I used to run hard (OTR driver), going 2-3 days straight was normal. Now, on a rare occasion I might go 2 days but that is all I will do. Not worth it.

Just stay busy, you'll do fine.
A 30 minute catnap will get  you a few hundred miles further down the road.

With zero sleep, probably a little over 48hrs.  With a few minutes of nod off time here and there, 96 hours.

45 hours straight to complete a software project.

At JRTC I went 90 hrs and my Joe's around 70. We
were all combat ineffective. I couldn't write my name or
Repeat my SSN.  After it was over we rotated sleep and
I felt great after four hrs sleep.

About 36 hours driving a tank across a featureless desert in Desert Storm.  Drifting off gently only to be smashed awake by the Tank Cdr screaming Ling Wake up, we're falling behind.  Then rev up, go a little too fast, overtake my wingman who has by now fallen asleep in his tank.  Want to talk about a drunken centipede looking wedge formation???

And the longest of all?  A Dungeons and Dragons binge that started at 6am on a Friday morning and ended at 5am for Monday morning PT.  Didn't get to sleep until 6 or 7 that night.  Our Sgts were not happy with us.

Several times into the 48 hours plus during the .mil days.

A few times 36 hours plus during the .party days

End result was pretty much the same

3 days back when I was younger and worked 3 different shifts weekly.  That job nearly killed me working two 7-3, two 3-11, and two 11-7 shifts every week for 7 years and not usually in that order

36 hours, had a fatal MVA at 10 pm on a Thursday after a regular 7-5.  Cleared the station at 4 am and decided showering and a big breakfast was better than trying to doze for a half hour.  Thankfully I had all day Saturday to catch up.

37 hours.

When the piece Of equipment is costing the company $2000/hour every hour it is down, no one lets you sleep.

About 6 days when I was on spring break in my junior year of high school. I will never do it again. Things got ALL fucked up.

Working 24's at station......up all night in the ghetto.  Come home at 7am to take care of a baby and two year old while wife went to work.  Up at night with baby and then back to work......So roughly 60 hrs.  Happened several times over the years.  I'll bet I was averaging 1-3 hours of sleep a night for weeks when the kids were very young.   I literally thought I was going to crack.  I think I did a few times.

About 60 hours last month at work.
Traveled two days in and then worked a full day.
Two weeks after this I was finding out how much I had actually missed during the handover.

Around 72 hrs once.  36 hrs a few times.

I worked rotating 12hr shifts at one time.  Threw my entire schedule off track and sleeping didnt come easy so somtimes I just didnt sleep.  All of the people saying it gets weird are dead on.

I need sleep to function.  I've done 36 a few times and 7 days with maybe 20 hours of sporadic sleep total.  After 30 hours or so I do not need to be driving or operating machinery.

50 hours every week for 2.5 years while going to school and working nightshift. After awhile you learn to function on a pretty high level considering, you get used to feeling like crap and just press on.

44 hours during a flooding and recovery incident aboard ship.

About that long during a training op in the bush at Camp Pendleton.

Pretty damn tired both times.
