I have a 1988 Mercury XR4 150 hp on my bass boat, and the trim is stuck in the down position.  The solenoids are good.  Sometimes I can hear the pump motor trying to move when I press the "up" button, but it never really turns.

How can I manually raise the motor?  I've heard that there is a manual bypass valve for the pump, but I haven't found it.  I've tried unscrewing both plugs for the hydraulic system with no luck.

Your help would be appreciated.

I bought the 150 as a rebuilt motor 5 years ago.

I have a '78 50 horse Merc on my duck boat that runs like a top.  It's never been rebuilt.

There is a screw that can be accessed through the side of the transom plate to release the trim pump pressure. Once you lift the motor up you have to tighten it.
Probable needs the valve body to be rebuilt/replaced. Sometimes it a bear to lift that sucker up manually. If that doesn't work you may have to crack open the actual hydraulic line going to the lift cylinder.
