It has happened many times over the years. It gives them something to do. Yup. This actually is a real problem. Happens several times locally. The motivations differ. Some boredom. Some just like the thrill of the lights and sirens. Some are just pyros. Smallest amount do it for a financial reason. |

The biiiig fire... MY LIFE FOR YOU! |

Fire service fire setters are a danger and a blight on the firefighting profession.
100 are arrested every year. 1,100,000 firefighters are active in the USA as of 2011. Throw the book at him in my opinion. The thin red line has its uses and place to be used, but this is not one of them. |

As months dragged on with no leads, investigators developed a theory that the fire-starter could actually be a firefighter. While it may seem unlikely, some estimates say that as many as 100 firefighters are arrested every year for arson. Unlikely? Really? That's where I'd start. In California it is quite common for firefighters to start wildfires. Gee, the baby's crying, time to start a fire! |

This happened in my home town. My Dad and son saw the fire. I remember when they built the complex. The pain remains for a lot of people. Joe Wambaugh wrote a book about him. Horrifying read. http://articles.latimes.com/1998/jun/27/news/mn-64128 |

Only half the story.
We need to see how this unfolds before criticizing the chiefs actions. News story obviously puts an anti FF spin in it. Framed. Need more evidence. He's the chief, he can set fires if he see's a need to. Failing to see any fault in his actions. Did I cover them all or did I miss a few? |
