I stopped by the gun range tonight on my way back into town. I set up on a 50 yard range as it wasn't busy with only one car there. I got my range bag and target stand out and waited for them to call clear and set up my stuff. I wanted to sight in a rifle but felt I didn't have time so I just shot my new to me 1968 National Match 1911. The other guys at my range were a white guy about 30-35 and a younger black guy around 20ish. The white guy had some tacticool gear on and was apparently teaching the kid from what I over heard. At first I was somewhat nervous and was keeping an eye on him because he was a bit wild with the muzzle. They were shooting a G22 with 22rd mags and the older guy was doing some short two shot drills while stepping over and firing two more which was all cool. A little later they got out a GP100 (I believe) and let the boy fire it. Anyway the kid was freaking out a bit and I finally figured out it was because he didn't like mosquitos lol. I offered him some advice about keeping his fingers away from the front of the cylinder and chatted with them a minute. Anyway it was the kids first time shooting and he was just nervous, he pointed out an M4 on the next table over which I hadn't noticed and said that was what he really liked but they were out of ammo. I had a cigar box full of some reloads my dad made in my van so I went and grabbed them and walked back over to them and opened up the cigar box and man did that kids eyes light up. I asked him (the owner) if he didn't mind shooting reloads and he said that was fine with him so I gave them several magazines worth. Anyways I had shot 60 or 70 rounds of 1911 joy and was done so I got ready to leave. The kid said something about me giving them the bullets or something and I told him I was just happy to see him out at the range shooting, that was payment enough. TL DR: Gave young black male 223 reloads to help him enjoy his first time shooting ever. |
