| Was Higgens really Robin Masters? |
|
Towards the end of the series Magnum started suspecting that Higgins was Robin Masters and had hired an actor to impersonate him, but earlier in the show Robin Masters was pretty obviously not Higgins or an impersonator. I think one of the last episodes had a fat guy getting out of a helicopter who was supposed to be Masters, or maybe an impersonator.

I'm kinda thinking that the question in the OP would be a pretty good indicator there might be spoilers in this thread. |

Was Higgens really Robin Masters? Not at first, but Yes That was part of the idea of the series that reality was only the real in the constant in a private dock in paradise novella. The "real" robin masters" shown from neck down in early episodes was part of the illusion |

The "real" robin masters" shown from neck down in early episodes was part of the illusion You have to look deeper into the story of magnum and it's genre to understand. If you take it at the surface, it's a freeloading hairy pool boy living in some rich dude's cabana in faggy shorts borrowing his pussy magnet ferarri. But it's a bit more complex and a very dark show. And a unique twist on 1930's crime novels. The famous last episode laid bare the darkness of the show that was typically buried under putting magum in silly and cheeky situations. |

Miss some of those old shows from the 80s, damn theme song will probably be in my head the rest of the day. Which one? The lame one from the first few episodes of first season or the cool later one? Never knew that. http://magnum-mania.com/Audio/Theme_Song_Original.html |

As a kid I really remember this opening scene..... <a href="http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/DwayneHicks100/media/adadc7ec0523_zps875fbd8a.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a483/DwayneHicks100/adadc7ec0523_zps875fbd8a.jpg</a> The whole damn theme song was nothing short of awesome. Pre-neon 80's summed up in 47 seconds |

I'm rather fond of "Unfinished Business", where Magnum goes to the dark side to get revenge on his wife's killer. Of course it could be the use of Genesis' The Brazilian as part of the soundtrack for the episode. http://www.mangum-mania.com/Video/Unfinished_Business.html |

I never bought into the idea of Higgins as Robin Masters. As already stated, Orson Welles appeared as the voice (and backside, as you never saw his face) of Robin Masters. Welles died in 1985, which made him rather less available for cameos in later seasons. So while they may have wanted to reveal Welles as Masters later in the series, they couldn't.
In addition, every so often the series would share an excerpt from a Masters novel, and they were awful. Someone with Higgins' intelligence wouldn't lower himself to writing such drivel. |

However, the writers definitely hinted to the possibility but the real answer was never actually revealed. Even when Magnum was killed off and after public outrage, the series was brought back for another year and the question was not answered even then. :( |
