[s]There will be a short downtime taking place tonight so that I can complete an upgrade to the back-end system data for members. (Hopefully 30 minutes or less! Chat WILL be available at that time!)[/s] This is all in preparations for the New Year and the introduction of the 3 membership levels. All current Team Member accounts will become "Gold Members", or as I like to call them "GoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooldMembers". [;D] For the new year, we will introduce the two new memberships, a $20 Bronze membership and an upgraded Platinum membership. Information on the changes will be posted in the membership section. (Check the menu on the homepage! Info should be up later today!) Basic changes you need to know about include: Spell Check, Search, My Active Topics moving to the new bronze memberships. The reason for these items moving away from public use is simply due to resource usage they are responsible for. None of these functions are essential to daily enjoyment of the site and fall under niceties. ($20/year works out to roughly $1.67 a month!) [i]There are plans to get site MIRRORS up this year to help even out bandwidth usage. When this becomes active, we will re-evaluate our situation and needs.[/i] One of the focuses for 2003 is the development of the Archive Server. This will be a dedicated "READ ONLY" server where all posts older than 6 months will reside and be searchable. The archive search engine will allow for very complex searches, including the body of messages. The interface will be similar to what you're used to, you just wont be able to reply or add content to those posts. This server will be available to all of the Team Memberships. Got a few small updates I will push up and then upgrade the accounts. Did you guys want me to pull off the "Gold Member" crap? I honestly put that in to ensure things were working and in prep for a new upcoming "toy" for everyone... [;)] If I dont get to the accounts tonight, I will do them tomorrow... finishing some testing as we speak! |

So that's what happened...I was able to change my avatar, and I noticed that it says 'gold member' which I hadn't noticed before. I personally don't have any problem with the naming of the membership levels, but how about... Bolt action membership (bronze) Semi auto membership (gold) Full auto membership (platinum) DD (Destructive Device) membership (staff, admin) Just a thought...not necessarily a good one. CJ |

GoatBoy, There is a problem with using your PayPal link. A note box does not appear, so I could not place my user name anywhere in the PayPal order form. The e:mail address I use is not my ar15.com account. I will send you an e:mail to [email protected], to give you user name information. You might want to ask for a "note" box to appear so future subscribers to the site can leave user name information for you. |

[;)] Basicaly, you just need to cover difference in memberships for the remainder of your membership year or renew at the new rate if it's renewal time. (If you renew now it will extend your anniversary by a year from THAT date, not the day the account is upgraded. Everything revolves around the initial date. [=)]) BTW - I upgraded all the accounts and now I am off to bed... 2am and I am totally on fumes. Night all! |
