Organizing my pantry. What's the shelf life of condiments? Talking unopened BBQ, bottled marinades, and dressings. I'm guess not much past  expiration of the oil based dressings. What's the hive say?

I just use them until they taste funny.

FDA requires "shelf stable" for that type of stuff.

That means, acidic to the point nothing can live in it, or salty to the point nothing can live in it, or sugary to the point nothing can live in it, or for single meal stuff it has to be sealed hot and sterile.

Unopened, I'd use them two or three years after expiration date.  Open, and in the fridge, I still use them two or three years after the expiration date but will sniff or inspect them once in a while.

Thanks guys. Next question. What about flour? Didn't know they even had an expiration date on them?

Remember that dude who posted about the salsa he ate that he later found had a giant fungus thing growing in it?  I think that was past its expiration date in his fridge.

Yeah.

Floor can get weevils in it, but I didn't know it went bad. I guess it could get damp and mold.

Flour has a short shelf life. that's why people prep by storing whole wheat berries not flour. I keep 50 lbs of flour stored on Mylar in a bucket and toss it every 3 years. If you have an open bag of flour in your pantry I would suggest that 1 year is tops. it is not spoiled but it will lose all its nutritional value.

Usually no more than a year or so....spices lose flavor after time, as do sauces.

Why keep condoms in the pantry?
