Needing to upgrade my router from my old linksys as I just upgraded my internet and my old ass router cant push the speeds. Looking to speed about 100 bucks. I currently have a roku xbox one 2 tablets and 2 phones that use the internet, not sure if that matters or not.
Linksys recommended me the EA 3500, but I'm open to anything that is around the 100 dollar mark. |

I avoid Linksys these days, the last Cisco branded Linksys I had was a total POS Ditto. I have an E1200 that I have to restart at least once a week. Hope they come out with a better firmware for it- my old WRT54g only needed a break a couple times a year. |

It has been good to me over the years thats why i was thinking linksys this time |

EA3500 is like $30 on tigerdirect today...lemme see if I can find it.
Disregard, it's this one for $40. Still not a bad deal. |

I upgraded my PC to wireless n and like the improved speeds, but now one of my devices can't connect to the router now and then. It may be my PC, my laptop, or one of our phones, but then it takes a router reboot to get the ticked off device to connect again. I have been thinking of getting an Asus instead. |

I've been buying TP-Link WLAN products off of Newegg for the last three years. I've never had a failure and they are reasonably priced. TP-Link stuff gets good reviews, but I've had one TP-Link router crap out on me and another that absolutely refused to stay connected to an iPad. I've sworn them off forever. |

Buy once cry once:
http://store.pfsense.org/vk-2d13/ Or build your own for free if you have a spare older computer around that has two NICs. |
Guess I'll be that guy.
I would recommend a used Apple Airport Extreme. You can get a 5th generation off Amazon, used, for ~$75. Right now I have a 2nd generation Airport Extreme I bought used for $100 in 2008. Still works great with no issues. I never have to restart it or fiddle with it, and it has pretty good range. |

I have cable Modem hooked up to a router in the basement. Cat 5 wires run to TVs in bedroom and basement. Third Cat 5 goes to living room where there is a switch for TV and an Obi110 Phone box.. Fourth Cat 5 line goes to an interior central closet for the WiFi router.
WiFi devices include work lap top, wife's laptop, two Kindles for kids, iPod and iPad. Only have issues is streaming NetFlix while 3-4 devices are hitting the net with lots of graphics. I need to upgrade the basement router at some point. |

I'm testing one of these http://www.ubnt.com/edgemax at work. It comes well recommended, but the setup is a bit rough. If I was setting up a home network from scratch I'd probably use one of them and pickup a used Cisco AP off of Ebay for about $30 - $50. Good solid gear but it'd require more knowledge to setup than the average user has. |

What advantage do you think OP is going to see with ddwrt versus updated firmware on any new router. Another vote for ASUS here. Quoted:

one that can be loaded with something like dd-wrt What advantage do you think OP is going to see with ddwrt versus updated firmware on any new router. Another vote for ASUS here. One is a full featured router with standard implementations of network technologies (assuming your router has enough storage for the big image) and the other is whatever technologies the manufacturer felt like implementing, in whatever standard they decide to use, with updates for as long as they deem fit and named whatever name they feel will sell routers. A linksys e1200 or e1500 is a good router with DD-WRT. I have 4 Asus Dark Knight N66Us and they were ok stock and are amazing DD-WRTed. |

this thing has been awesome for me: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1395403__ARCHIVED_THREAD____recommend_a__router___actually_access_point_in_bridge_mode__for_use_as_a_wireless_range_extender___.html&page=1#i36922645 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833162069 it came preloaded with dd-wrt, basic set up took minutes, it's super fast, i've since been using it as a VPN endpoint as well (makes surfing from a public hotspot so much safer), AND i have never had to manually reboot this router because it was hung up or something was amiss. it just works. this posting comes to you via it. ar-jedi |
| Really thinking about the net gear n600. I live in a small town and this one is in stock at my local wally world which is on my way home from work. Closest staples, best buy or such is 45mins - hour away. All being the same price as I can find online. I have and I need it now disease. lol |

Not impressed with the TP-Link that I had. Replaced it with an Apple Airport Extreme which was a great router but not very customizable. Recently got a super deal on an Asus. Prob the best router I've ever had. Range is incredible. |

Quoted: they say 30 down and 2 up, when I did a speed test hardwired I was getting 34 down and 5 up. With my current router I could only get 15 down but it still managed 5 up. Wireless is not a good replacement for a wired connection.

In all honesty, your old router can still push your latest internet speeds (unless you have over 100Mb/s internet speed). If its a wireless G modem, 54Mb/s is the most you can get over wifi, and if you upgrade to wireless-n or wireless ac you should get 300 - 600+ Mbps, but your devices need to support that (which they might... xbox one, and tablets/phones within the last ~year, should support AC. But if you have money to blow and want to upgrade, by all means go for it... Asus makes great products, I've had good luck with TP-Link, D-Link and Rosewill (Newegg.coms brand) |

If its a Wireless G capable router you may have to disable your wireless a and b settings for the speed increase (they take up bandwidth that G utilizes). |

It currently doesn't reach my attached garage which makes me mad... |
