A friend of mine asked to help him with his computer. It seems that when ever he turns it on it asks for a password. He has one but it's never accepted and asks for it again. How can I get him into his computer and make this password crap go away?
Thanks |

Easy peasy, this trick also works on Vista and 7. What security MS? ![]() http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/reset-password-windows-8.htm |

his password should be the same as his login for hotmail. And then: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/disable-remove-password |

It's going to be his Microsoft Password. Go figure it out on another machine, then turn the password feature off. This happened to me on a brand-spanking-new Win8 Machine; it's not that hard to fix once you figure out the thing syncs. |

He has a password but the computer will not accept it. I have half a mind to tell him to bring it to me and let me put Windows 7 on it. That way it would be easier for me to fix it when it goes sideways. |

I never set Windows 8.x with a Microsoft Account. I always use a local one. |

Are you saying it doesn't load Windows first? Quoted:

That does not apply in this case. Turn computer on then BOOM! password needed. No chance to see or interact with computer in any way. Are you saying it doesn't load Windows first? It does load windows first. You can't do anything after that without entering the password. |

I was having the same problem till I figured it out. |

If it's a microsoft login, he can reset it from any other computer first...then follow the link I put in so it doesn't use a password to get in. |

If it's the BIOS password he gets prompted for before it even boots into Windows, you may have to short a jumper on the motherboard or pop out the battery. This is what the issue is sounding like. He said it loads windows first. |

If you read my link closer, you will see you need to boot to a windows 8 disk, you do not boot to the installed windows. It does work and it will fix your issue. You may however have to go into the BIOS and enable booting to a cd before it will work for you. Quoted:

I will try everything that was suggested. Worst case is I format the drive and install Windows 7. Good thing I have an extra disk and key laying around. This would easier if you could boot into safe mode with out a CD or flash drive. Do you even F8, bro?? I hereby wave my usual fee, for the greater good! |
